Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Thank you for the opportunity to review this manuscript, which I found to be generally well-written and interesting. Economics Education for Sustainable Development – from a critical perspective - is indeed a very interesting intersection. Below, I present a number of suggestions, which aim at strengthening the article further.

Abstract

The abstract could be re-written to adopt a more balanced approach. The reasoning and scope are appropriate. However, I was expecting to see details about the research design being utilised, its sample, its research methods, and a sentence of the study’s main findings. After reading the Abstract, I still wonder, is this a conceptual paper (and if yes, does it apply content analysis, does it apply systematic literature review methods), is this an empirical paper, and what are the main findings? Please be reminded that many readers will simply read the abstract to decide if they want to keep reading or not.

Introduction

The introduction provides a clear theoretical background and purpose for the study.

In the last paragraph of the Introduction, good to see a sentence explaining the structure of the paper.

While there is no clear reference to the method employed, my understanding after reading the Introduction is that the paper is conceptual. You need to make this clearer by referring explicitly to the type of paper (conceptual) and the method used in the research (e.g. systematic literature review or content analysis?). You could also add a set (2 or 3) of research questions.

Material and Methods

Given the context of the paper, which focuses on the intersection between education and sustainable development, I believe it important to utilize the following source:

Doukanari, E., Ktoridou, D., Efthymiou, L. and Epaminonda, E. (2021) The Quest for Sustainable Teaching Praxis: Opportunities and Challenges of Multidisciplinary and Multicultural Teamwork. Sustainability 2021, 13, 7210. https://doi.org/10.3390/su13137210.

Part 4 or Concluding Remarks

Given that the current paper is conceptual, I believe it’s important to develop a visual model, illustrating your proposed posthumanist practice approach. This is very important since the paper’s contribution will not only appear in a qualitative form, but also as a graph. This will enable readers to grasp the content of the practice approach; and futher enhance interpretation. Then, under the graph, you can add a sentence to make a stronger case for the original contributions the paper makes. In other words, why is this study needed now and how does it advance our understanding of relevant theoretical or empirical matters?

Very good work overall. I look forward to receiving a revised version of the paper.

Cordially,

Good Quality of English overall.

However, after revisions, the article requires a good round of copy-edit, cover-to-cover.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper is oriented towards discussing the problem of the challenges posed to economic education created by the tansformation towards sustainable development. The paper proposes an alternative perspective on the framework of economic education. It promotes a more holistic approach to the problem of educational challenges addressed.

The executive summary presents the subject of the research, approximates the gap and outlines the directions taken to explore the topic. The main guidelines for the design of economic education (the article's findings) should be referred to.

The introduction presents the background to the research, with an indication of the practised models of economic education design. It points out the gap in the approach to practice in this area, reinforcing the legitimacy of undertaking research on this topic and achieving the objective of showing the positivist and neoliberal basis of economic education and the proposal of alternatives in this approach, related to the social theory of practice.

The introduction presents the structure of the work. However, there is no information on the research method adopted.

The article is based on an extensive literature review. It is a review rather than an article.  In terms of the relationship between educational challenges and sustainability, among other things, it is worth studying the source https://doi.org/10.3390/en15155461.

The theoretical findings should be captured numerically, with elements of statistics. Such a capture will enable conclusions to be better shaped. The research method should be described.

The article should be in journal layout. Guidelines in this regard would make it easier to write the article.

There is a lot of work to do, but it can be done.

I wish all the best.
