Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled "Determination of Critical Period for Sustainable Weed Management and Yield of Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.) under Sub-tropical Condition" is very well written and suitable for publication in Sustainability.

Table 1. Correct pH. Insert the CEC of the soil.

Line 211 (Results): "Cyperusrotundus" correct the scientific name of all species in the text and tables.

Table 2. Insert the Latin name of all species followed by the authors.

Figures 5. correct "Relative dry matter ( g m-2)".

Why didn't you find the Importance Velocity Index (IVI) for each weed?

Figure 11. You must enter the error or standard deviation of the mean of each point.

Conclusion: This should not be a summary of the results. You should show only the main results and conclude with a practical insight for the farmer.

References: all are adequate.

Reviewer 2 Report

This experiment is well-planned and properly described, with enough details to replicate the work, and the results part is also very detailed. It also brings value for assessing the critical period of weed control in jute.

The only significant negative comment is that the study was performed during one season only, but if authors could prove that the weather in this time was not abnormal concerning a multi-year period, e.g., 30 years, then the amount of work is sufficient to conclude.

Editorial mistakes:

Ln. 93 - remove the second "Bangladesh" word

Separate words all over the document.

Explain all the abbreviations under tables and graphs. They should be self-explanatory.

In conclusion, do not use any abbreviations.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript, entitled: "Determination of Critical Period for Sustainable Weed Management and Yield of Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.) under Sub-tropical Condition" focuses on the weed control of a fiber plant of great importance in the Indian Ocean region. One of the critical points of effective weed control is the exact knowledge of the weeds and the place of production, as well as the determination of the critical competition periods for the given cultivated plant.

In this regard, the article focuses on the development of a weed control system for a locally important fiber plant. Methodologically, it uses standard elements, their description is adequate and the evaluation of the obtained results is also consistent.

At the same time, the manuscript is also burdened with many formal errors.

- The abbreviations used (e.g. CPWC, WD, DM, BS, FF, FB) must be explained in the text the first time they appear.

- In Table 2, the scientific names of the weeds are written together, incorrectly.

- In the case of several tables (e.g. Table 8), it is necessary to name each unit of measure in the footnote.

- In line 156, the abbreviation SDR needs to be corrected.

- Methodologically, the use of W6, W7, W8, W9 weed interference periods causes some confusion.

- At the same time, W5 and W10 represent the two extreme control values.

After making the significant changes suggested above, I recommend publishing the manuscript.

The entire manuscript is characterized by the frequent lack of necessary spaces. This also applies to the English text and the spelling of scientific names. This significantly impairs the intelligibility and readability of the text. These definitely need to be improved.
