3.    The introduction section needs to be expanded.

4.    In the introduction section research question is not clear. Highlight the motivation of the study in the introduction.

5.    The numbering of sections and sub-sections should be corrected.

6.    What is the reference of lines 82-95?

7.    Refer to the word Table 1 in the research text. Numbers of all figures and tables should be included in the research text.

8.    Authors should add explanations for Table 1 to the text.

9.    Tobit model explanation should be added to the research.

10.  Support your results (in section Analysis of influencing factors) with relevant studies. This section needs more explanation.

(1) 1. Introduction and 1 Indicator System and Research Methodology, the order of the titles of these two chapters is repeated. (2) The specific indicators in the indicator system need further explanation and need to be supported by relevant literature to show the scientific validity and rationality of the selection of indicators. (3) The feasibility analysis of the methodology is missing, i.e. additional explanation of why the chosen methodology is applicable to this article. (4) Further explanation and justification of the reasons for the selection of the given study area. (5) How some of the specific values in "2. Evaluation of the coupled development of industry-city-population in the Yellow River Basin" were derived. (6) In "3.1. Spatio-temporal evolution analysis", the reasons for choosing the years 2011, 2015 and 2020 should be given. (7) The selection of influencing factors in "4.1. Model construction" needs further explanation and clarification. (8) There is a lack of description of the contribution of this paper to the study and the outlook and shortcomings of the paper. (9) The authors need to indicate in the text that they are willing to share the raw data of this study for the reference of other scholars.

Reviewer 3 Report

This paper uses a lot of empirical techniques to understand the spatial coordinates in industries in China. Overall, I thought the paper may be of interest to readers of this journal. However, I have some serious concerns about the article structure and the ambiguous objectives. I recommend that authors should select a few key results to present their contribution. Moreover, they should discuss more about their results because their conclusion seems to be very progressive. I feel somewhat they showed off answers of a practical quiz in the econometric class for graduated students.

Nothing. But, first sentence of the abstract is nore readable for us.

Reviewer 4 Report

The authors constructed a coupling development index to illustrate the coupling coordination degree and spatio-temporal differentiation characteristics of industry, city and population in the Yellow River Basin. This research is interesting. However, the manuscript is not well written for the following reasons.

1. The indicators adopted to construct the index are not explained clearly. Some indicators are not known for their standard definitions, such as Energy consumption intensity, Comprehensive utilization rate of general industrial solid waste, and so on. The readers cannot understand how to use these indicators in the comprehensive index.

2. The authors can supplement a map to contain the information about the values of the coupling development index for each city. Figure 3 only contains the spatial correlation patterns.

3. The authors should explain the four factors in Table 3. How do the authors find these independent variables? They seems to be indices constructed from other indicators.

Hence, this manuscript has to be majorly revised before accepted. The index and the factors which can influence this index are not well explained, and then the contribution of this manuscript is unclear.
