Enhancing Construction Enterprise Financial Performance through Digital Inclusive Finance: An Insight into Supply Chain Finance
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The paper lacks two crucial parts: 1. a review of previous empirical studies on the DIF worldwide and in the PRC and 2. a comparison of obtained results with the previous research (also known as "discussion"). Without these parts, it is very difficult to assess the merit and contribution of the paper to the field. Therefore, this lack needs to be rectified before publication.
Furthermore, a single source (Kieschnick and Moussawi, 2018), not directly related to DIF or construction companies, is not persuasive enough to choose control variablesfor both models. I recommend finding and citing more publications, preferably on the construction industries. Finally, the data sources for the control variables as well as the used estimator (OLS?) were not disclosed. This also needs to be corrected before publication.
Personally, I'd also recommend explaining the DIF and their form in Chinese provinces/counties in brief detail with some examples in the introduction (how does a construction company get financing from the DIF), to support better udnerstanding of the research.

In this paper, the authors presented a theoretical analysis and empirical examination of the relation- 9 ship between DIF and the financial performance of construction enterprises, focusing on the per- 10 spective of supply chain finance and the findings indicated that DIF can enhance the financial perfor- 11 mance of construction enterprises, and supply chain finance is one of the mechanisms through 12 which DIF affects the financial performance of construction enterprises and the cross-sec- 13 tional analysis reveals that the impact of DIF on financial performance is more pronounced in pri- 14 vately held construction enterprises with high operating pressure The paper is correct and generally correctly written and this study may help the researchers to get a thorough hold on its topics and their applications. The results cater to needs of ongoing research in the field and I believe would be benefical once it gets published.
