In the introduction/summary, it is worth giving examples of specific products, then the article will be more understandable and useful for environmentally friendly products covered by the research, similarly in the case of the studies described in Figure 6.

Line 44-45 What does it mean: “It is found that the discrete choice model stimulates consumers' desire to buy environmentally friendly products much higher than the conjoint analysis method.”  Do the methods stimulate the tendency to buy?

368-381 It is difficult to understand how the research model could arouse consumer enthusiasm. Maybe the application of this model to research and then to improve marketing activities was so accurate that the effects aroused enthusiasm. This is not explained by the authors.

Figure 5. Incomprehensible title. What does it mean: before and after consumers?

Figure 6. The appearance of this drawing is significantly different from the appearance of Figure 5. It would be good to make them similar in color, font, etc. In addition, readers may be curious about which environmentally friendly products are involved, because the results of research for them differ significantly.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1.In the introduction/summary, it is worth giving examples of specific products, then the article will be more understandable and useful for environmentally friendly products covered by the research, similarly in the case of the studies described in Figure 6.

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. This paper takes energy-saving appliances as an example to analyze their product consumption models and trend predictions, and proposes two consumption models for consumption concepts and supply and demand issues, studying residents' consumption of environmentally friendly goods.

2.Line 44-45 What does it mean: “It is found that the discrete choice model stimulates consumers' desire to buy environmentally friendly products much higher than the conjoint analysis method.”  Do the methods stimulate the tendency to buy?

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. The introduction of this article mainly explains the research purpose and significance of the article. The description in lines 44 to 45 is indeed not appropriate. Therefore, we have made improvements in the introduction of the newly revised manuscript.

3.368-381 It is difficult to understand how the research model could arouse consumer enthusiasm. Maybe the application of this model to research and then to improve marketing activities was so accurate that the effects aroused enthusiasm. This is not explained by the authors.

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. The discrete selection model is conducive to highlighting the value of eco-friendly goods themselves and highlighting the contribution of eco-friendly goods to the overall utility compared to other ordinary goods, thus it is more conducive to arousing consumer purchasing enthusiasm. We have explained this in the analysis section at the end of Figure 5.

4.Figure 4. Primitive appearance and inappropriate graphic elements

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. The description in Figure 4 is indeed not reasonable enough, so we have made improvements to the graphic elements in Figure 4 and added them to the newly revised manuscript.

5.Figure 5. Incomprehensible title. What does it mean: before and after consumers?

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. This article is based on two types of consumer models to assist decision-making on residents' consumption, and uses Figure 5 to compare the changes in consumption desires of residents of different age groups before and after applying the two types of consumer models.

6.Figure 6. The appearance of this drawing is significantly different from the appearance of Figure 5. It would be good to make them similar in color, font, etc. In addition, readers may be curious about which environmentally friendly products are involved, because the results of research for them differ significantly.

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. Based on the modification suggestions, we have unified the graphic style of Figures 5 and 6, and introduced the environmentally friendly products designed in Figure 6, which will be presented in the experimental section of the newly revised manuscript.

7.Figure 7 shows trends. There is no explanation why charts made up to 2015 are described as trends if it is the past from 8 years ago.

Response: Thank you very much for your innovative comments. This article has made corresponding modifications to Figure 7, which mainly uses joint analysis and discrete selection model analysis to simulate the consumption of environmental goods by residents from 1980 to 2020.

This manuscript proposes two consumption models to analyze the consumption of environmentally friendly goods by residents. The authors first rank and order the product with the combined analysis method. Then, they analyze consumer preferences for environmentally friendly products based on consumption behavior.

I went through the manuscript carefully. At the detailed level, the following notes are my suggestions:

1) Although the ABSTRACT structure is good, the philosophy of using the proposed method should be explained.

2) In my opinion, the INTRODUCTION section needs to be revised. In this section there should be three points: 1) motivation, 2) summary of challenges of previous studies, and 3) contribution. Also, the research contributions should be mentioned in a bullet-form at the end of the INTRODUCTION.

3) The authors do not clearly indicate where they obtained the dataset. Also, the description of dataset pre-processing is an important part of a research that is unfortunately missing here. Adding explanations in this regard can be useful for the reader.

4) It is not clear to me which formulas were invented by the authors themselves and which ones are derived from other references. I found evidence that some formulas are derived from other references and there are similarities.

5) I suggest to use some new and relevant references to enrich the background. For example, the following articles may be appropriate:

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/gcbb.12614

file:///C:/Users/a/Downloads/3165-7422-1-PB.pdf

6) I recommend adding one or two variance analysis regarding metrics to the manuscript in the tests section.

7) There are still some grammatical errors in the manuscript. Authors should use software such as Grammarly for proof-checking.

8) The tense of the verbs in the CONCLUSION section must be past tense. In this section, the most important numerical improvements of the proposed method should be mentioned and marginal explanations should be avoided. Also, the suggestions mentioned for further research should be presented in a new paragraph.

Residential Environmental Protection Commodity Consumption Model and Trend Forecast Based on Consumer Preference

Global Considerations:

The article is (low) interesting, guiding to understand how new consumption models can lead us to approaches more sustainable of commodities by the population.

It was tested two consumption models: to analyze consumers' consumption preference for environmental protection products, first, the prediction accuracy of consumption preference, and, second, consumption desire.

The sample is ok (more than 300 participants is a good figure…), but not well balanced. It is not very clear how the author defined the participants…

There is a lack of theoretical models about consumer behaviour and sustainable models. The literature review is too much focused in other experimental researches not so in theoretical aspects.

A large number of mathematical models are presented, just to justify some authors decisions without a logical framework.

Figure #4 could be improved…

Final Considerations:

The article is written in a regular English, with few mistakes, but is not a strong article to be approved to this Journal. It does not give a significant contribution to the science.

The English language is ok.

Author Response

  1. The sample is ok (more than 300 participants is a good figure…), but not well balanced. It is not very clear how the author defined the participants…

Response: Thank you very much for your suggestions. At the beginning of the experimental section, this article provides an introduction to 329 participants who have had more than 2 consumption experiences in the physical stores selected in this article. This article plans them according to their respective age groups.

  1. There is a lack of theoretical models about consumer behaviour and sustainable models. The literature review is too much focused in other experimental researches not so in theoretical aspects.

Response: Thank you very much for your suggestions. Based on your feedback, we have made revisions and supplements to the literature review section. In the literature review section of the newly revised manuscript, we have added research on consumer behavior theory models and sustainable models.

  1. A large number of mathematical models are presented, just to justify some authors decisions without a logical framework.

Response: Thank you very much for your comments. In this article, the theoretical model classification of the conjoint analysis method and the discrete choice model is introduced, which does not highlight the theoretical logic of this article. Therefore, in the experimental part of the revised draft, this article only conducts experimental analysis on the utility function model of the conjoint analysis method and the multiple choice Logit model in the discrete choice model.

4.Figure #4 could be improved…

Response: Thank you very much for your suggestions. We have supplemented and modified Figure 4 and added it to Chapter 2.3 of the newly revised manuscript of this article.

Thank you for the opportunity to review the manuscript titled “Residential Environmental Protection Commodity Consumption Model and Trend Forecast Based on Consumer Preference”.

This paper selects three environmentally friendly commodities in order to observe the accuracy of the two model algorithms on consumers' consumption preferences (the conjoint analysis method and discrete choice model). The result of the research is what methodology is the best for prediction accuracy of consumption preference.

However, it requires to enhance justify why authors also analyze "the consumption desire of environmental protection products before and after consumers" as well as why they use segment by age interval.

Moreover, my doubt is the contributions of this study to the frontier of the knowledge such as Theory of Planned Behavior, development of social economy or environmentally friendly products. It is not a general scenery, so authors must relation it in order to develop arguments with the comparison of both methodologies and their results expected.

There are mistakes, for example, the most visible are in the graphics (preference for environmental protection, analysis methods, etc.)

Response: Thank you very much for your comments. To verify the consumer preference based consumption model and trend prediction of environmentally friendly goods for residents, this article analyzed the changes in consumer consumption before and after the application of the consumption analysis model. Due to significant differences in consumer preferences among different age groups, this article conducted experiments on consumer consumption changes among different age groups.

Response: Thank you very much for your comments. With the development of social economy and environmental protection concepts, the role of residents' consumption models and trend prediction analysis of environmentally friendly goods in promoting the healthy development of environmentally friendly goods and manufacturing enterprises is becoming increasingly significant. In this context, this article analyzes the changes in their consumption based on consumer preferences.

Response: Thank you for your concern. The introduction has been revised, and a summary of the challenges, motivation, and contribution has been added.

2) The authors do not clearly indicate where they obtained the dataset. Also, the description of dataset pre-processing is an important part of a research that is unfortunately missing here. Adding explanations in this regard can be useful for the reader.

Response: The data collection process is straightforward and users only need to consider their priorities, not the size of their preferences. Linkage analysis requires customers to exchange between different attributes, rather than directly asking customers about the desired level and importance of attributes. Using the conjoint analysis method, consumers analyze the preference degree of a certain commodity, and establish a basic preference model. This article takes consumer users of a certain brand's online shopping transaction physical store as the research object, and uses their consumption records as the dataset to conduct experimental analysis on their consumption preferences for environmentally friendly products. In this analysis, 329 consumers were randomly selected from the consumer user group of the physical store, and these 329 consumers had more than 2 consumption experiences in the physical store. This article divided their age groups into: under 18 years old, 18-25 years old, 26-40 years old, 41-60 years old, and over 60 years old. The article first analyzes the age group of residents who purchase environmentally friendly products. The data collection procedure can be found in [Wang F, Wang H F, Cho J H. Consumer Preference for Yogurt Packaging Design Using Conjoint Analysis. Sustainability, 2022, 14(6): Article Number: 3463].

3) I suggest to use some new and relevant references to enrich the background. For example, the following articles may be appropriate:

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/gcbb.12614

file:///C:/Users/a/Downloads/3165-7422-1-PB.pdf

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you for the opportunity to review the manuscript titled “Residential Environmental Protection Commodity Consumption Model and Trend Forecast Based on Consumer Preference”.

  1. Moreover, my doubt is the contributions of this study to the frontier of the knowledge such as Theory of Planned Behavior, development of social economy or environmentally friendly products. It is not a general scenery, so authors must relation it in order to develop arguments with the comparison of both methodologies and their results expected.

  1. There are mistakes, for example, the most visible are in the graphics (preference for environmental protection, analysis methods, etc.)

Response: Thank you very much for your comments. According to your guidance, we have revised the corresponding parts of the article, especially the errors in the graphic part, which we have revised in the newly revised manuscript.
