Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This article proposes the use of a system dynamics approach to address the tool selection problem in demolitions, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of demolition.Based on the demolition of townhouses in Bangkok, Thailand as a background, this study considers significant environmental protection indicators and develops the system dynamics model.

This is a very interesting and meaningful research, which has a certain effect on environmental protection, and the research conclusions can provide reference for the practice of related work.

Abstract:

In the abstract, it is recommended to explain the use of the analysis method 'Secondary data collection' and further elaborate on the application of the 'System dynamics modeling approach' for a better understanding.

The research value can also be presented at the end of the abstract."

Literature review:

Table 1 only lists the number of documents, and I think it can be considered to be deleted.

Method:

Part of the research methods can be moved to the “literature review ”, which is more convenient for readers to read. Such as discussion of analysis methods for 'the environmental impacts in the construction industry' can be included in the literature review section.

Overall, this study is interesting and meaningful, and it is recommended for publication after minor modifications.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Editor and Authors,
Thank you for entrusting me in this revision.
I read carefully the manuscript entitled "Environmental assessment of demolition tools used in townhouse demolition: sistem dynamics modelling"by Moyowa and Chinda. In this manuscript the authors compares a variety of demolition tools that are commonly adopted in the Bangkok metropolitan region in response to the increasing demand of residential construction. This comparison was based on a quantitative assessment of the impact of the various demolition tools combination on the CO2 production, energy consumption, noise production, and dust dispersion.
In my opinion, the topic addressed on this study is relevat for the aim of the Journal Sustainability. The manuscript is written in a clear way but the text needs some reorganizations. For example, all the relationship of the model calculation should be removed from the main text and included in a separated file as supplementary material. In my opinion this imprrove the readability of the paper.
#Figure# Figure 1 should be removed, while a new figure should be included to show the townhouses (e.g. the differences among small, medium and large-size townhouses).
In my opinion the manuscript deserves publication on Sustainability after moderate revisions. I suggest minor revision, but I also suggest the authors to take all the time necessary to edit the current version of the manuscript. I included my suggestions and comment in the attached file.
Thank you again for the opportunity to read this manuscript.
Best regards,

Reviewer 3 Report

The content of the manuscript is very interesting and centered on the themes covered by Sustainability.

The study appears to have been conducted thoroughly and rigorously.

The manuscript is well organized.

In my opinion the manuscript can be accepted after the following minor corrections (of a formal nature).

- In the introduction, the authors should spend at least one sentence indicating that their environmental assessments could be integrated by economic assessments in the future, as done for entire buildings or individual building components, see for example DOI:10.3390/su11051452 and DOI:10.1016/j.matpr.2021.09.307, studies that could be mentioned.

- The graphs from Figures 2 onwards should be rescaled appropriately to adequately appreciate the trends described by the lines shown, given that the scales currently used for the ordinate axes do not allow this (almost all appear as horizontal, but in reality many are inclined, albeit weakly).

Give a general check to improve the flow of reading.
