Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Well, and needed topic and area of research. A detailed explanation of the methodology and findings reporting. There is room for improvement in the discussion area.

Discussion on how the current research findings extend the existing knowledge on financial literacy, borrowing behaviour and household income would add strength to the work done.

Reviewer 2 Report

I suggest several comments improving this work.

First, it's not the norm to include the number in the tile. I suggest removing 460 which is the sample size from the title and shortening the title as much as possible.

Second, I recommend to bold the research aims by adding a bullet in the Introduction section. Where are the contributions and gaps of the research in the Abstract and Introduction sections? I also recommend mentioning the data and methodology of research in the Abstract section.

Third, I suggest updating the literature review by adding more papers published in 2022 such as "Examining the Impact of Financial Literacy, Financial Self-Control, and Demographic Determinants on Individual Financial Performance and Behavior: An Insight from the Lebanese Crisis Period. Sustainability14(22), 15129." Since this study discusses the borrowing behavior (demand side), it would be interesting to add some studies about the credit supply side such as" " EXAMINING THE SECTORAL CREDIT-GROWTH NEXUS IN AUSTRALIA: A TIME AND FREQUENCY DYNAMIC ANALYSIS. Economic Computation & Economic Cybernetics Studies & Research55(4)" and "Time-frequency co-movements between bank credit supply and economic growth in an emerging market: Does the bank ownership structure matter?. The North American Journal of Economics and Finance54, 101239".

Fourth, the discussion and conclusion should be separated. Meantime, the authors should be added the policy implications of this research from the various stakeholders' views not be generalized.

Reviewer 3 Report

Thank you for the opportunity to review this article, I would like to report the following comments:

1.      This article is interesting, I have enjoyed reading it, and it is well written but still more improvements are required.

2.      The title for example does not need to mention the total sample of the respondents, you better delete it. Please make it (Financial literacy, borrowing behavior and rural households’ income: A case study of rural households in the collective forest area of Liaoning, China).

3.      The introduction is nicely written but I think more references still need to be added with more description about financial literacy, borrowing behaviour and other variables of the study.

4.      I recommend redefining section number 2 to the theoretical background and hypotheses development. Then, the authors should explain the theoretical background and theories. Try to support your study with theories to strengthen it. Please refer to this study, it will guide you in the selection of the theory that you may use. (The interplay of social influence, financial literacy, and saving behaviour among Saudi youth and the moderating effect of self-control, 2022).

5.      Definitions are advised to be shown without numbers, this is an article, and not a class lecture so it is better you explain them continuously without numbers.

6.      I have observed in various places of the article some difficult and confusing sentences and structures so it is better you proofread the article.

7.      I could not see the hypothesized model properly however, I would advise redrawing it nicely.

8.      You may also support your arguments about financial literacy and its importance in saving and investment behaviour with these recently published articles (The impact of financial literacy on entrepreneurial intention: the mediating role of saving behavior, 2022).( Entrepreneurial Competency, Financial Literacy, and Sustainable Performance—Examining the Mediating Role of Entrepreneurial Resilience among Saudi Entrepreneurs, 2022).

9.      Kindly arrange your research methodology section, start with the source of data, measures of the study, a sample of the study, sample size, type of study, and type of sample and then continue with the analysis. Don’t start with analysis and then talk about the source of data.

10.   There are different places in the article where the journal’s style is not met, please be consistent.

11.   Please add an implication of the study section as well as the conclusion section. These are very important sections. Talk also about the limitations of your study in the conclusion section and suggest future studies. Don’t combine everything in one section

 all the best
