Reviewer 1 Report

This study investigates a comparison of the dyeability of many kinds of textile fibers with the obtained colorant from the date fibrillium. The work lacks of novelty but is practical. I suggest to do major revise.

1 The language needs to be improved

2 The abstract is well-writen, however, the introduction need to be improved.

3 Please compare the dye affinity of this with reported one.

4 There are too many tables in manuscrpit.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this article, the authors investigate the use of colorant obtained from the date fibrillium on different kinds of textile fibers and found that wool and nylon fabrics are the best with this natural colorant. The effect of pH, temperature and dying time was also investigated.

A nice piece of research work. However, there is scope to improve the introduction to motivate readers about the originality and new knowledge of the research.

The conclusion is not well written. Need to be modified to conclude the findings in the results and discussion section.

Authors are also requested to follow the points below:

1. Abstract

a)  Line 19:  “to develop a research on dyeing based from dyes from date palm”

Need a revision of this part of the sentence

b) Line 30

“can be concluded that date fibrillate has excellent potential for dyeing wool and nylon fabrics, where the---"

Please modify as the dye extracted from date ---------

2. Introduction:

The author is requested to add one or two sentences on the possible use of the residue at the time of dye extraction in the introduction to justify the proper use of  fibrillium material

3. Experimental

a) 2.3: The extraction process of dyes needs a detailed with flow diagram.

b) In lines 140-141

“The detection of flavonoids was identified by the generation of a red color when zinc dust 140 was added to the aqueous extract of date palm fibrillium, followed by the dropwise intro-“

‘Was’ used twice

Results and Discussion

a)In the figure-3,  4, 5, 6 and 8 the different symbols used like K/S, L*, a* etc not well defined with their significance.

b) in section 3.4, the author is requested to mention why the maximum temperature is 100 oC in his study.

c) in line 209, the meaning of the part “Alum <FeSO4.” Is not clear

d) in 3.6: The mechanism of mordants needs to be explained with reference.

Conclusions

This part “ Date palm fibrillium were boiled for 1 hour in distilled water. The retained solution was 251 subjected to filtration to remove the residue. Then, it was used to dye multifiber fabrics 252 under acidic and basic dyeing conditions.”

Is not a conclusion.

b) In 255, “ Based on these results, they were selected for the development of staining studies”

The meaning of ‘they’ is not clear in the sentence.

d) The conclusions need to be improved.

Reply

Thank you. This recommendation was taken into account. Indeed, dyeing studies at temperatures above 100°C have shown that K/S values are kept constant from 100°C. For this reason, we have presented the dyeing results at the maximum temperature of 100°C.

  1. c) in line 209, the meaning of the part “Alum <FeSO4.” Is not clear.

Reply

Thank you. This was corrected in the revised paper. This sentence was remplaced by this sentence « The K/S values of the samples dyed and mordanted with FeSO4 are higher than those of the s. Reviewer 4 Report

The authors have presented manuscript titled “Ecofriendly dyeing of textile materials with natural colorants 2 from date palm fiber fibrillium”. This is interesting study, but needs a thorough review.

The paper is not recommended for acceptance in current form, however, after making major revision, it is likely to proceed for acceptance. My comments are asunder:

Abstract

1.       The authors should mention the achievements

Introduction:

1.       Please provide state of the art, compare your work with already published one and give the significance of yours.

Materials/ Methods

1.       The fibrillium material was collected in December 2014…  The sample was collected about eight years ago? When the experiments and analysis were performed? Why too long time?

3.       Line 69… continue the text body after ‘testing affinity’

4.       Please mention the sources of various fibers used

5.       Line 83… which type of dyeing machine was used? (mention model, country etc)

6.       Section 2.6 , give graphic illustration and provide complete detaisl of mordants

7.       Explanation needed “Two metal mordants, namely alum (Al2(SO4)3) and ferrous sulphate (FeSO4), have been 88 used to dye wool and nylon fabrics before dyeing with date palm fibrillium extract” why wool and nylon were dyed by mordants before date palm extract? WHY not directly? Include some justification with respect to literature.

8.       Section 2.7, provide reference

9.       What type of accessory was used to meet the temperature needs?

10.   Line 108, Formation of a dark green color indicates the presence of phenolic compounds. Provide reference
