Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I find the objective of your study not suitable for Sustainability. Not only yo make no mention of sustainable development at all in your contribution (your mention a couple of papers on the topic, but they have no relevance or impact in your research); most importantly you have no considerations regarding social, environmental or cultural dimensions; not even the SDG are mentioned.

The conclusions are brief, vague and irrelevant to the sustainability framework.

I recommend that you review your manuscripts narrative. And find a journal suitable for you modelling results.

Please review the grammar of your manuscript, I found several issues that show lack of care in the submission (such as "was examined by designing with designing a").

Reviewer 2 Report

The article entitled “Application of Internet of Things in Residential Distribution Systems” has been reviewed and the review comments are appended herewith.

1. Functional and structural aspects of IOT window should be described. Also, the efficiency of  the smart window need to be discussed.

2. How the fluctuations in power and solar insolation are being taken care of, while optimizing the function ?. If these parameters are considered, the LDC profit may be impacted. Need to include discussion on this in the revised manuscript.

3. It will be good if the model considers failure and reliability constraint. This means that the smart IOT window may suffer failures or low reliability performance during various ambient or operating conditions.

4. Can the cost factors be included or analyzed ?

5. The paper should project cost saving graphically

6. Need more references to be cited for

  (a). Discussing energy conservation aspects using sustainable technologies. The following papers may be added as reference for this;

1.  Jamal, H., Loganathan, M.K., Ramesh, P.G., Singh, M., Kumar, G. (2023). The authors propose a mathematical optimization model to maximize the profit of the distribution company while implementing IoT window into a residential buildings. The technical and economics implications are also explored in this paper. This work is beneficial to optimize load management and enhance the capacity of a distribution system. The reviewer thinks that this paper can be considered for publication, but only if the authors answer to the following points.

1-      Please explain the symbols after these formulas(2-8), to make readers better understand the paper.

2-      Please reorganize the introduction part, it is important to point out the significance of reference paper.

3-      Please note the innovation of the paper.

4-      In ‘4. Results and Discussion’ part, please detailed explain the importance of the research results.

The authors have worked on "Application of Internet of Things in Residential Distribution

Systems ". The work seems interesting and can be considered after a few modifications.

Abstract: The section needs to be modified quantitatively like overall power consumption save in house.

Introduction: The section is well written however the novelty of the manuscript needs to be added along with recent literature.

Author only consider south facing windows, what about house which does not have south face window.

Reviewer 5 Report

This paper presents a new framework that mathematically enables an IoT application in residential distribution systems by integrating IoT windows and occupant behavior with homes for load management and energy conservation.

The article has many disadvantages regarding its practicality.

- Please highlight the contribution of the work bullet-wise.

- The quality of the shapes is very low

- The introduction section is suggested to be reorganized (divided into several paragraphs) to improve readability.

Apart from the importance of the study, the authors are advised to summarize the original contribution of this paper.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Adding one paragrapha in the introduction does not make a paper on mathematical models a perfect fit in  journal on Sustainability. Sustainability is much more complex than energy efficiency. This is a nice paper that can be very interesting to read in other journal.

Author Response

We thank the Reviewer for the comments. The present paper is not just about energy efficiency, but also it integrates IoT based houses in residential distribution systems for sustainable energy systems.  Indeed, the paper investigates the compatibility of IoT based houses with power availability of a rooftop PV generation towards a more sustainable energy future.

In view of the above, and considering the aim and scope of Sustainability, we have submitted our work to this journal.

Thanks again and best regards,
