Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The current paper has presented application of random parameters modeling approach for joint analysis of accident frequency by severity. Overall, the paper is written well and has the potential to be published in the journal after addressing the following points.

Comment#1: Introduction section should be expanded by including more safety statistics from the global as well as the study area’s perspectives.

Comment#2: in the specific innovation and contributions points of the work proposed should be provided in form of bullets for better understanding.

Comment#3: AT the end of introduction section, a short para describing the paper organization should be included.

Comment#4: In section 2, analysis of source of heterogeneity, it is recommended to review and cite the following recent studies. /doi.org/10.1080/13588265.2021.1959153; doi.org/10.1061/JTEPBS.0000617; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.aap.2022.106952; doi.org/10.3390/ijerph191710526

Comment#5: Section 3, there is mistake in the spelling of title.

Comment#6: Table 1-2. Descriptical statistics for variables. More descriptive statistics such as frequency/percentage distribution of explanatory variables should be provided. Again, there is a spelling mistakes in the table caption.

Comment#7: It is important to analyze the temporal instability as well as the out-of-sample simulation which will allow to estimate the effect of predictor variables on the output injury severity outcomes.

Comment#8: Section, 5.1.Marginal effects of fixed parameters model, I believe part of section, especially the mathematical expressions are better suited in the methods section.\

Comment#9: A new section “Discussion” should be added to the draft where the results of the current work be compared with other related recent works.

Comment#10: A new para describing the study usefulness from practitioner’s viewpoint and policy implications may be included.

Comment#11: The paper contains numerous typos and language issues and needs a careful language audit to fix these issues.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Summary/Contribution: The main contribution of this work is the improvement of a one-stage composite model for analyzing and predicting accidents. The authors propose a stochastic parametric modeling method that enhances the fitting effect and prediction accuracy. They also analyze the impact of factors on accidents and highlight the model's contribution to transportation sustainability. The improved model reduces errors and provides a scientific direction for enhancing transportation safety sustainability.

Comments/Suggestions:

1. Provide more context and background information about the significance of traffic accidents and their impact on society. Explain the consequences of traffic accidents in terms of human lives, property damage, and economic costs.

2. Consider including recent statistics or data on traffic accidents to support the claims made in the introduction. This will help to provide a more current and accurate understanding of the problem.

3. Clearly state the objective or purpose of the paper in the introduction. This will help readers understand the focus of the research and what they can expect to learn from the paper.

4. Explain why the analysis of the source of heterogeneity is relevant and necessary for understanding and addressing traffic accidents effectively.

5. Define the concept of "heterogeneity" in the context of traffic safety more explicitly. Explain how it relates to the variation in the impact of observed factors on accident risk due to unobserved factors.

6. Consider providing more specific examples or illustrations to help readers grasp the concept of heterogeneity and its implications in the field of transportation safety.

7. Use subheadings or bullet points to organize the different types of unobserved factors that contribute to heterogeneity. This will improve the structure and readability of the section.

8. When discussing the modeling approach to address heterogeneity, provide a brief overview of how random parameters modeling works and how it can capture the variation in accident risk due to unobserved factors.

9. The authors are invited to include a paragraph about the use of formal methods and validation for validating the adopted techniques.

10. For this purpose they may include the following interesting references and others:

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

In this work the topic is interesting, I have the following concerns:

Keywords are not arranged in alphabetical order.

In table 1.1 the reference is not provided.

Equation numbering are not correct as seems chapter’s numbering. Similarly, figure numbering is not corrected.

Some related papers are ignored in the literature, that could be enhanced the qulaty of the paper. doi: 10.1109/TITS.2022.3182410, doi: 10.1109/TITS.2023.3269794

What is the difference between the proposed model and the paper “A Hybrid-Convolution Spatial–Temporal Recurrent Network For Traffic Flow Prediction”.

The future work is not provided clearly in the conclusion section.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Authors have thoroughly revised the manuscript based on my previous comments. Therefore I recommend it for publishing.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

English language is fine, however, minor fine tuning is desired to remove the typos and punctuation issues.
