Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

General comments:

In this study, the author used POI points, OSM road network and residential area data to construct human activity indicators. A method for constructing an urban ecological environment index using remote sensing images and combined with machine learning models was developed and applied to regression analysis on indicators of urban ecological environment and human activities.

The present version is not suitable for publication. Many supplements and modifications are required to improve the article quality. The author should revise the manuscript carefully according to specific comments below.

Specific comments:

(1)    The author should summarize the study and re-write the abstract more logically.

(2)    In ‘Introduction’ Section, the author should comprehensively present the status/development of your research topic in foreign countries and in China, respectively.

Then focus on the status of your research topic, especially in your study area/country or in similar areas/countries. This part should be re-organized.

(3)    Instead of just list the references, the author should summarize the research topic and their major findings.

At the end of ‘Background’ Section, the author should summarize: 1) are there any problems that need to be solved? 2) How can your study solve one or some of these problems? 3) how these research provide theoretical support for your study? or 4) what’s the relevance between their research and yours?

This part should be re-organized.

(4)    All the figures- use SI unit in all the scales (km, not miles); use consistent font- Times New Roman.

(5)    Improper title of Fig. 1. Your study area is the whole Chengdu, why refer ‘research area in Chengdu’? Or show the location of Chengdu in Sichuan Province in a sub-map.

(6)    Table 2 and 3- use symbols ( or <) instead of text.

(7)    Table 4 – Add ‘Remark’ for ‘Space Syntax Structure’.

(8)    Fig. 4 – title of each submap should be shown.

(9)    In order to be in accordance with ‘5. Conclusion: (1) In general, the three indicators of human activity all show a trend of being high in the center and gradually decreasing in the surrounding areas, while the indicators of urban ecological environment show the opposite trend, influenced by population distribution, resource allocation, and topographical factors.’, ‘the three indicators of human activity’ and ‘the indicators of urban ecological environment’ should be shown respectively in Fig.5.

(10)  Table 5 and 6- ‘~’should be explained at the bottom of the table.

(11)  References- the author should check the reference format very carefully. Non-uniform description format can be easily found in the reference list. Use uniform reference format.

Thanks for your encouraging comment. All your concerns have been addressed below in detail.

Comment 1. The author should summarize the study and re-write the abstract more logically.

Response to Comment 1:

Thank you for the valuable suggestion. This part has been rewritten

Comment 2. In ‘Introduction’ Section, the author should comprehensively present the status/development of your research topic in foreign countries and in China, respectively.

Response to Comment 2:

Thank you for the good suggestion. Due to the lack of available literature, we added some relevant content.

Comment 3.  Instead of just list the references, the author should summarize the research topic and their major findings.

At the end of ‘Background’ Section, the author should summarize: 1) are there any problems that need to be solved? 2) How can your study solve one or some of these problems? 3) how these research provide theoretical support for your study? or 4) what’s the relevance between their research and yours?

This part should be re-organized.

Response to Comment 3:

Thank you for the valuable suggestion. We added some relevant content.

Comment 4. All the figures- use SI unit in all the scales (km, not miles); use consistent font- Times New Roman.

Response to Comment 4:

Thanks very much for reading our manuscript carefully. We carefully modified the errors in the revised version.

Comment 5.    Improper title of Fig. 1. Your study area is the whole Chengdu, why refer ‘research area in Chengdu’? Or show the location of Chengdu in Sichuan Province in a sub-map.

Response to Comment 5:

Thanks very much for reading our manuscript carefully. Picture has been replaced.

Comment 6. All the figures- use SI unit in all the scales (km, not miles); use consistent font- Times New Roman.

Response to Comment 8:

Thanks very much for reading our manuscript carefully. We carefully modified the errors in the revised version.

Comment 9. In order to be in accordance with ‘5.

Response to Comment 9:

Thanks very much for reading our manuscript carefully. It needs to be understood in combination with the geographical location analysis in Figure 1, so it cannot be displayed in Figure 5 alone, which has been explained in the corresponding places in the paper。

Comment 10. Table 5 and 6- ‘~’should be explained at the bottom of the table.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors,

I hope you're well

I appreciate your scientific effort to produce this manuscript.

This is really an interesting paper. I do however have minor comments that I think must be rectified prior to publication:

1- You need ,,to build up,, your introduction stating the problem, gap, research questions, aim, specific objectives and your contribution to academia. How does your aim and objectives reduce the gap in academia?

2- Research design and approach should be discussed and justified.

3- What is the limitations of your research?

4- The authors in discussion section should present explanations and interpretations of the findings, clarify the paper's novelty, and compare the results with recent studies.

4- Conclusions should include more recommendations for future research.
