Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The background is well written and provides a context on displacement settlements with reference to energy access.

The authors need to check the manuscript for spelling errors and incorrect grammar.

The authors have shown rigorous data search and analysis which provides an alignment in the presented narrative. As much as the authors acknowledge that on-site data is not readily available, there are also some assumptions made that may not be the reality of these settlements. High electricity access rates of settlements do not automatically translate to all occupants having access to use of this energy source. This is a similar case to households in a country like South Africa, where there are high electricity connection rates, but due to costs and other factors that lead to energy poverty, only a few can afford to use this energy source.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article "Enhancing understanding through data visualization: What can  available data reveal about access to energy in displacement 4 contexts on the African continent?" addresses an issue of great interest when considering the energy transition, the global ecological transition, and contributes to enhancing the relevance of international contributions such as the 2030 Agenda.

High quality data is provided, with graphical representations that allow the problems described to be understood, although there are also a series of deficiencies to be considered by the authors in order to achieve a publishable document:

1.-the "Introduction" section is broken down into sections, without first explaining why. This section should begin with a general assessment, as the introduction serves to contextualise the issues under study. For this reason, I believe that the information contained in this section is excessive. The graphical representation used is relevant, but the explanation is more typical of a literature review, which does not present a specific section.

My recommendation in this section would be to rewrite the introduction, contextualising the problem, incorporating figures and tables if considered, but transferring the rest of the explanation to a literature review section.

The limitations of the research and its contribution to the field of analysis should also be stated.

The objectives described and the research questions posed are of high quality.

2.-if the authors include the literature review section, which should be number 2, the current methodology section would become number 3. In the methodology section, the case study should be described and its choice well justified.

3.-the research results are well presented and supported by a selection of high quality and high impact maps.

4.-the discussion of the results should be revised and completed, taking into account key contributions from the scientific literature. There are assessments, for example between lines 766 to 781, which should be explained on the basis of the references included.

5.-the conclusions do not show the main contributions of this research. They are too brief and generalist, and do not facilitate the concretisation of the results obtained.

6.-a revision of bibliographical references is needed, as well as a revision of the way of citing, which is not homogeneous.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Based on humanitarianism, this manuscript focuses on the issue of access to energy in displacement contexts on the African continent. This manuscript is very meaningful. This manuscript explains the difficulties of poor people's ability acquisition from different perspectives. The authors obtained data from many aspects and analyzed and discussed them. However, although there are still some problems that need attention.

The main problems are as follows.

1. There are too many keywords. It is recommended to simplify 1-2 keywords.

2. Suggest readjusting the structure of "1. Introduction ", especially placing the data section at the end, such as "2 Materials and Methods ".

3. Figures are not standardized, for example, Figure 2-12 lack a scale bar, compass, and legend.

4. There are too many figures in this manuscript.

5. Finally, there is a lack of research prospects in “5. Conclusions”.

6. Many materials are not suitable as references.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors have done a great deal of work to revise and improve the initial document, revising practically all the issues raised in the first revision.

I believe it is now of sufficient quality to be published.

I would just like to share with the authors a reflection on the key words, in particular on "humanitarian energy". I am not clear about the relevance of this word, but I do notice the lack of any reference to access to energy, as indicated in the title of the article.
