Reviewer 3 Report

The paper analyses the effect on the Asian Summer Monsoon Anticyclone on trace gases and aerosols, considering 10 years of different satellite measurements. The analysis is well conducted and the obtained results are very interesting. Nevertheless, the text contains several language errors and missing explanations. Thus the authors must improve the manuscript for the revised version, considered the following comments.

Abstract, 2 line before end: add “of” between “constraining” and “several”.

Page 2, part 1, 11 lines before end: a word is missing after “these”.

Page 2, part 1, 6 lines before end: can you define “ENSO”?

Page 3 first line: The sentence is unclear, the same thing seems to be said twice.

Page 3, part 2.3, line 6: What do you mean by the profile of cloud and aerosols ? Is it extinction, backscattered ratio, optical depth, or something else? Can you specify?

Page 6, liens 6-7: The sentence “The most striking feature is the tape recorder effect in the stratosphere is also noticed in the anticyclone region” is unclear and one word is missing after “stratosphere”. Perhaps the authors could provide more explanation about  this effect.

Page 7 line 10: Can you specific which volcano eruption occurred in  August 2008?

Page7, 9 lines before end: What do you mean by “with tropopause temperature vice versa”?

Page 7, 9 lines before end: Since the correlations are not so high except for ozone, you need to remove the word “highly”.

Page7, 7 lines before end: Can you explain why “The correlation values between tracers and ASR are found less when compared with other parameters”?

End of page 7. What can you conclude from the analysis of the lag-lead?

Figure 4: I am not sure that VEI is the good parameter to illustrate the injection of volcano aerosols, since the 2009 Sarychev eruption is not visible in the figure. The authors must find another index to illustrate the effect and the intensity of the volcano eruptions, or remove the figure 7b. Perhaps they can only indicate the dates and the name of the eruption in figure 4e.

End of page 8: What means “f Asian…”?

Figures 1 to S3: Can you indicate to what correspond the black circle line?

Page 9 line 7: What is the interest of showing grids with 90% confident level? Do the authors means that elsewhere in the figure the confidence level is lower? Thus, what will be the consequence for the maps’ analysis?

Page 9, 7 lines before end: The sentence “The fine scale structure in tropopause altitude and temperature due to the high-resolution COS-MIC data” is unclear and a verb is missing.

Page 10 line 10: The authors must specify which interesting features they have detected in Figure S2.

Page 10 line 13: If the changes are not significant, they cannot be moderate!

Page 10 2 lines before end: It is not obvious that “the peak coincides with the anticyclone”, since aerosols enhancements are also detected outside the anticyclone (for example at 15°N 50°E).

Page 11 line 12: Which “previous discussion” do you speak?

Page 13 lines 5-7:: A verb is missing in the sentence.

Page 13 line8: These eruptions were not “major” (the Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991 was a major one). The word “moderate” is more appropriated.

Page 13, part called “1”, lines 5-6: Same comment as above concerning the aerosol peaks.

Page 13, part called “1”, line 6: This effect is not visible in figure 7.
