Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Author:

I have carefully read the article entitled: "An Efficient High-Resolution Global-Local Networks to Detect Lunar Features for Space Energy Discovery"  and then wrote my review report.

The structure of the article is: 1. Introduction, 2. Methods 3. Experiments 4. Results and Discussion 5. Conclusions

3.Experiments

My suggestion is that this chapter should join Chapter 2 and call them both Methods & Materials.

The figures that do not belong to the authors should contain in their description the reference of the author or the publication from which they were taken or modified.

Computer hardware and software should be referenced in the same way in the reference section.

I recommend the publication of this manuscript, but the proposed corrections should be made first.

Best regards

Author Response

Point 1: My suggestion is that this chapter should join Chapter 2 and call them both Methods and Materials.

Response 1: Thank you for your advice. On page 3, we changed the title of the second chapter into Methods and Materials.

Point 2: The figures that do not belong to the authors should contain in their description the reference of the author or the publication from which they were taken or modified.

Response 2: We are very sorry for our incorrect writing. On page 5, we added a lot of references to images.

Point 3: Computer hardware and software should be referenced in the same way in the reference section.

Response 3: We added a reference to Computer Hardware and software in the reference section.

Point 4:  I recommend the publication of this manuscript, but the proposed corrections should be made first.

Response 4: Thank you very much for your suggestion. We have changed the problem.

Reviewer 2 Report

Exploring the surface of cosmic bodies is the target of many teams and specialists. The rills and impact craters on the Moon or Mars are the first elements on the way to discover the energy potential associated with the occurrence of He-3. Especially from this point of view, I consider the presented paper to be the first particle of the mosaic, which in the future will enable fast and automated mapping or prognosis of such elements on the surface of cosmic bodies.

I recommend only stating units for the accuracy of individual networks or recall rates.

Author Response

Point 1: I recommend only stating units for the accuracy of individual networks or recall rates.

Response 1: Thank you very much for your advice. We further explain the recall rate and accuracy rate of a single network indicator in Chapter 3.2.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,

I was asked to review the work entitled “An Efficient High-Resolution Global-Local Networks to Detect Lunar Features for Space Energy Discovery” - authors: Yutong Jia, Lei Liu, Siqing Peng, Mingyang Feng, Gang Wan.

The paper focuses on the proposal of a new specific deep learning method to explore craters and rilles and (at least in the intentions of the authors) to discover space energy simultaneously.

Although I am not strictly an expert in the field, and I do not have specific skills to discuss the mathematical and informatics aspects of the proposed method, it seems to me that the steps are developed correctly, and the final result undoubtedly represents a step forward in the automatic survey of Moon and Planets geological features. In my opinion, the manuscript is aligned with Remote Sensing aims and scopes, thus it can be considered for publication, after some moderate adjustments.

Authors can find my minor comments in the text (mainly formal and stylistically, see the attached file). Here, some general comment and suggestion:

- I am not a native English, so I am not the right person to propose revision of language and style. As noted in the acknowledgments, the manuscript underwent an English expertise. The English is plain and readable, although some sentences are not clear (for me at least), and the choice of some terms could be reconsidered. Thus, minor adjustments are still needed.

- As well as “Earth” and “Mars”, also “Moon” is a proper noun, and it should be in first capital letter. Again, “mare” (plural: “maria”) and “Occidentale”, as Latin nouns, should be better written in italics.

- In Figures 2 and 8, labels of x and y axes are hardly readable, due to their size. I suggest to enlarge them, if it is possible.

- My only real perplexity regards the correlation between the proposed method and the search for space energy (sources). I agree this target would be crucial in the next future, anyway how this paper would contribute is introduced but not fully discussed. The method proposed herein is interesting and a step forwards in better detection of lunar geological features. It also may reveal as a tool in space energy discovery, but this part should be better remarked. I suggest the authors to enlarge this part, emphasizing the contribution that can be provided by the proposed tool, and maybe introducing arguments to support the improvements expected in the search for resources. Otherwise, remove the references in the title to this section, keep it in the introduction, and takes it up in the conclusions only as a future research perspective.

I hope my comments could be helpful.

Best Regards

The reviewer

Response to Reviewer 3 Comments

Point 1: I am not a native English, so I am not the right person to propose revision of language and style. As noted in the acknowledgments, the manuscript underwent an English expertise. The English is plain and readable, although some sentences are not clear (for me at least), and the choice of some terms could be reconsidered. Thus, minor adjustments are still needed.

Response 1: Thank you for your suggestions. We also found some minor problems in the language. We have revised some nouns in the paper, reflected in each chapter, and further corrected the grammar.

Point 2: As well as “Earth” and “Mars”, also “Moon” is a proper noun, and it should be in first capital letter. Again, “mare” (plural: “maria”) and “Occidentale”, as Latin nouns, should be better written in italics.

Response 2: Thank you very much for pointing out our mistake. Indeed, we have modified "Earth" and "Mars," also "Moon," and some proper nouns written in italics..

Point 3: In Figures 2 and 8, labels of x and y axes are hardly readable, due to their size. I suggest to enlarge them, if it is possible.

Response 3: Thank you for your suggestions. X-axis and Y-axis represent precision and latitude, respectively, which can be reflected in Section 3.1. Within the scope of the article requirements, we also expanded some images for easy viewing.

Point 4:  I recommend the publication of this manuscript, but the proposed corrections should be made first.

Response 4: Your advice is very professional. Being able to detect lunar craters and creeks is the first step in future energy discovery, and the subject of this article is finding creeks more efficiently and quickly. In some studies, H-3 and other energy sources in Lunar Stream are the next steps in discovering different energy sources, which is challenging. In addition, we have made some adjustments to the introduction. Thank you very much for your suggestions. We think you are a very responsible and professional reviewer. Thank you.
