Rural Health: Low Obesity Rates Among Students in Portugal’s Countryside
Highlights
- Obesity rates among students in Guarda—9.1% in children and 9.7% in adults—are lower than the national and European averages.
- Obesity rates are higher among younger boys than older children and girls.
- Increased physical activity and reduced sedentary time are associated with a lower body mass index.
- Students in Guarda have relatively healthy dietary patterns, although there is still room for improvement in certain areas.
