Traditional vs. Modern Data Paths: A Comprehensive Survey
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The 2nd section with the used terms is not needed since those are well defined terms.
Section 3 and the associated data paths, should mention (especially for TCP/UDP) some recent additions and trends associated with modern applications that use the paths.
Section 4 on comparison spends a lot of space on basic and well known characteristics that can be found in text books. Innovation is needed when it comes to a journal publication. Table 2 is a good summary of the merits of the various approaches.
Section 5 on simulation results is very limited. It deserves an extended discussion with current applications and settings and possibly showcase the differences between earlier days of data paths and current trends associated with current applications and infrastructures (eg. academic networks vs home users, basic TCP vs demanding multimedia).
In the current form the paper lacks novelty and requires major revision where the emphasis will be on the current networking demands, applications and the associated data path technologies. Detailed scenarios should then get evaluated with clear targeted directions (eg. performance vs complexity, latency vs security)

This paper compares a set of traditional and modern data paths for tracing the communication packets for different protocols and compares the performance of communication analysis.
The followings are some suggestions to improve this paper.
1) clear explanation of the process of the experiment in Sec.5;
2) a detailed description of the experiment results with Tables or Diagrams;

Reviewer 2 Report
The authors have made an important work to revise and answer to the comments made on the first round of reviewing. The purpose of the paper for modern data paths appears more clearly when user employ the relavant techniques such as TCP, UDP, QUIC, RDMA, DPDK.
