Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this review, Zhang et al. summarized the research progress of MOFs materials in the field of photocatalytic HER in the last three years. This review is timely and will help researchers gain insight into novel synthesis strategies and post-modification regulation of MOFs materials. More importantly, many constructive comments were put forward. In summary, this review meets the requirements of the journal Catalysts and is recommended for publication after minor revision. Other comments are listed below:

1.     After narrating each literature, the authors stated the inspiration of them. However, there were some repetitive words or similar sentences. and the authors need to delete part of them.

2.     In the introduction of section 5 (MOFs-derived Materials), to increase the readability of this part, the author can make a simple classification of MOFs derivatives or simply list the preparation methods from MOFs to their derivatives.

3.     In the section 6 (Conclusions and Prospects), the authors should give their opinions on the recycling of MOFs catalysts mentioned in this review.

4.     In this review, it is mentioned that some MOFs with high crystallinity can be regarded as a kind of special semiconductor materials with band gap, so some methods of constructing heterojunctions can be referred to load semiconductor materials on MOFs. I suggest that some relevant literatures should be cited to increase the readability of this review. Adv. Mater. 2020, 32, 2004747; Catal. Today DOI: 10.1016/j.cattod.2022.03.035.

Author Response

Thank you very much for your careful review and good comments. We provided point-to-point answers to your suggestions (in blue font) and revised the manuscript (highlighted by yellow background in the revision).

  1. After narrating each literature, the authors stated the inspiration of them. However, there were some repetitive words or similar sentences, so I suggested that the authors need to delete part of them.

Our Response 1: Thanks for your suggestion. According to your suggestion, we have deleted some repetitive words or similar sentences (two sentences before Figure 14 and Figure 19).

  1. In the introduction of section 5 (MOFs-derived Materials), the author can make a simple classification of MOFs derivatives or simply list the preparation methods from MOFs to their derivatives to increase the readability of this part.

Our Response 2: Thanks for your suggestion. According to your suggestion, we have listed the simple classification of MOFs derivatives (page 14, lines 343-348).

  1. In the section 6 (Conclusions and Prospects), the authors should give their opinions on the recycling of MOFs catalysts mentioned in this review.

Our Response 3: Thanks for your suggestion. According to your suggestion, we gave our opinions on the recycling of MOFs catalysts mentioned in this review (page 21, lines 516-517).

Our Response 4: Thanks for your suggestion. We appreciate that the reviewer provided the good and relevant references, which was helpful for this review. Therefore, we have cited them as Ref. 97-98 in the revised manuscript (page 21, lines 470-473).

Reviewer 2 Report

I have carefully read this paper entitled with “The Advanced Synthesis of MOFs-based Materials in Photocatalytic HER in Recent Three Years". As a result, I have only a few minor points that the authors should address before it is accepted for publication. Please, publish subject to the following revisions:

1-     Rewrite the novelty statement at the end of introduction section.

2-     Authors should justify the importance of the current work of how this is different from earlier reports. So, it’s better add comparison table material for MOFs-based Materials in Photocatalytic HER and its performance to shows importance of manuscript.

Our Response 1: Thanks for your suggestion. According to your suggestion, we have rewritten the novelty statement at the end of introduction section (page 2, lines 72-77).

  1. Authors should justify the importance of the current work of how this is different from earlier reports. So, it’s better add comparison table material for MOFs-based Materials in Photocatalytic HER and its performance to show importance of manuscript.

Our Response 2: Thanks for your suggestion. According to your suggestion, we gave a comparison table (Table 1 in the revised manuscript, page 20) for MOFs-based materials in photocatalytic HER and its performance.
