The Utilization of Two-Phase Catalytic System in Enantioselective Biotransformation of Racemic Atenolol
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Chalupka et al. have reported the enantioselective biotransformations of (R,S)-atenolol with the use of various catalytic systems containing ionic liquids and toluene as a reaction medium, vinyl acetate as an acetylating agent as well as lipases from Candida rugose.
Due to the importance of the products and the potential application of this method, I could imagine to support the publication of the manuscript. However, in the current form the manuscript has several weak points that need to be addressed prior publication.
In my opinion, the following major and minor changes should be addresses prior publication:
1. In my opinion, authors’ claim of improvement in eep and E values following the use of ionic liquids is misleading. Table 1 clearly shows that there was not any significant improvement in these parameters compared to the use of traditional solvent toluene.
2. Can authors perform some preparative scale experiments to support the biocatalytic parameters of the enzymatic reaction?
3. The nonsignificant improvements in the biocatalytic parameters following the use of ionic liquids should be discussed in more details.
4. Caption of Y-axis is missing in Figure 4.

Reviewer 2 Report
Chalupka et al presented a good paper entitled as Two-phase catalytic system in enantioselective biotransformation of racemic atenolol in this worthy Journal Catalysis. This paper could be a good entity towards this journal and i recommended this suitable for publication after revising my concerns
My concerns are following
1. Title need to be revised
2. The abstract have some errors which should be removed and also some tropical mistakes should be cleared
3. Author should cite some latest reference regarding this study to make its more impactful
4. What is the role of 37 degree temprature by lipase taking as a catalysis for that organic tranformation
5. There is a error maybe which i saw at temprature of 72 hour in Figure 2. Please explain
6. Author should compare their study with other studies in literature review
7. What is the novelity and what gap author covered?
8. Author shoudl explain future prospective of this study
