Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Manuscript is good structured and complexe. I think authors should pay attention of rolle of roots (root nutrient efficiency income) and progress in modern breeding too. Related to content I don´t have more comments.

English level is good. I would like to propose to read manuscript carefully again and check some spelling errors.

Review report 1

Thank you for appreciating the authors' contribution in developing the concept of increasing the efficiency of nitrogen management. As you suggested, we added a text related to the current state of research on the traits of the root system responsible for the uptake of nutrients from the soil.

The English language was checked by Robert Kippen, currently a lecturer at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear all, I found the review paper interesting and usefull for researchers working in the very impotant field concerning N fertilization efficiency.
For that I suggest pubblication of the paper in the present form
