Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors,

The presented review paper is interesting. It shows the most commonly used growing mediums in the cultivation of medical cannabis. The authors show a possibility of selection of various growing mediums used depending on cultivation strategy and stage of plant growth and development. The paper demonstrates the advantages and disadvantages of the growing medium used. Each type of medium should contribute to improving the productivity and quality characteristics of the raw material obtained, as well as to reducing environmental hazards. Ultimately, the selection of growing medium depends on the cultivation technique and production system. Available literature has been cited. However, in the subsection "Living soils" from 348th line, verse) there are literature citation in the form of names e.g. (Kandasamy et al., 2019). Numbering should be maintained, consistent throughout the paper. In addition, items 41 and 42 (References) are not cited in the paper.

General comments:
This review is well written and summarizes current research/knowledge on growing mediums for cannabis production. The information in the review is important for researchers, growers, and other stakeholders in the cannabis industry.
My only suggestion is to include a summary table in the conclusion section on the different properties for each growing medium. This would improve the reader friendliness of the review. See summary tables in ‘Mupambi G., Anthony B.M., Layne D.R., Musacchi S., Serra S., and Schmidt T., and Kalcsits L.A. 2018. The Influence of Protective Netting on Tree Physiology and Fruit Quality of Apple: A Review. Scientia Horticulturae. 236:60–72’ for examples. Include references in the summary table if available.
Specific comments:
Line 13: change from 'The purpose of this article.... to The purpose of this review
Line 31: change from however, is still federally illegal to however, it is still.....
Line 39: change from various methods to various cultural practices…
Line 67 to 79: insert references if available
