Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

A consistent lack of international standard references is present over all the manuscript. "Selected forms" should not be used as the authors did. In the introduction, major mistaken information are reported: from the world production, to the mentioned producing countries that have already a strong market and did not begin a production only recently. Part of the cited literature in the introduction is difficult to recover on international platforms: the suggestion is to cite papers that are easier to be found and read. Same in M&M: if it is difficult to find the referenced method (eg: ref 26), either this should be re-drawn or at least summarized. In section 2.5 why apple is introduced? if it is to explain the method, need to state it. In 2.7 what does "planteous" and "vintage" mean? The statistics applied should be more robust and explained. “…” cannot be considered a standard reference of interval. In all figures, significant variation among varieties/accessions should be highlighted. Glen Magna is not Glen Magma. What is Brigantina? Why it is not described? In general, better statistical analysis and related graphical figures is needed. Climatic data representation could also be improved.

Reviewer 2 Report

Authors have studied the winter hardiness of raspberries and indicators of the water regime in the field using Raspberry Genotypes of Biologically Valuable Traits in the Conditions of Central Russia. Authors have identified frost resistant and winter hardiness cultivars which can be used for further breeding and production cultivation in Central Russia. Few comments to improve the manuscript.

  1. Language editing is highly recommended.
  2. How many replicates are used for each of the genotype for the each of air temperature conditions?
  3. Did authors observe any differences in the field experiment and temperature-controlled laboratory experiment with winter hardiness study?

Author Response

  1. Language editing is done.
  2. For each temperature regime of artificial freezing, we used 5 replicates for each of the genotype.
  3. We examined the relationship between data on artificial freezing and in the field when studying winter hardiness.

Reviewer 3 Report

This study was to evaluate winter hardiness and drought tolerance of raspberries genotypes in a field and/or lab setting to identify the most promising raspberries in central Russia. The methodology is straightforward and the experimental design and data analysis are appropriate. The research certainly has its merit; however, the presentation/English language needs to be extensively edited.

Author Response

We have done our best to edit English language as far possible. Trank you for your comments and suggestions.

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

The author revised the manuscript that is generally good in data presentation. The English language is much better than the original one, but still needs to be carefully edited and polished. For example, the first sentence can be edited as "In the Central Russia, raspberry productivity and production value are affected by a complex of adverse environmental factors. In this regard, new raspberry varieties or hybrid lines should be evaluated by analyzing not only the productivity, but primarily the winter hardiness and drought tolerance."
