Comments:
- Avoid using " We, I, etc., in the manuscript.
- Since authors have used low cost LiDAR, it will be interesting if they have included the cost variation between this low cost LiDAR and conventional measuring method.

This study presents using a low-cost light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to estimate leaf water content (LWC) by measuring LiDAR reflectance instead of morphological measurements (e.g., plant size).
Overall, the topic is interesting that can be beneficial to the scientific community. However, this manuscript could benefit from minor editing before publication.
Specific comments:
- Line 270: How about the relationship between LWC and the 905-nm reflectance from hyperspectral imaging data? Please give a comparison of LWC estimation models between hyperspectral and LiDAR sensor.
- Figure 5 and 6: The reviewer is curious about how did you split the calibration data samples and validation data samples. Please clarify it.
- Line 326: The reviewer is curious about how is the performance for the LiDAR-based LWC estimation models at the outdoor environment under natural light. Could you add some discussion sentences about the potential challenge when using LiDAR under natural light in the estimation of LWC?
