Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript ‘Research on Outdoor Thermal Comfort of Children's Activity 2 Space in High-Density Urban Residential Areas of Chongqing in Summer’ deals with the children's outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) in summer in high-density urban residential areas in Chongqing (southwest of China).

The paper is very interesting in results. The idea of quantification of children's outdoor thermal comfort in the high-density urban residential areas in summer season is extremely relevant and it is in the scope of Atmosphere Journal. The methodology proposed is described very clearly. The results are supported by a convincingly and well-organized set of figures and relevant tables.
My only remark is about climate characteristics of the
Chongqing city. The authors showed the significance, importance and relevance of the results. However, the basic information of climate for the multi-year observation period in this region lacks. In lines 96-99, mean monthly weather parameters are highlighted only for the year 2021, which is not a sufficient indicator of the climate.

1.      Has a significant increase in extreme temperatures been observed during the summer months in the last 20 or 30 years?

2.      Please, shortly explain us the UHI effect in Chongqing city from previous research.

Reviewer 3 Report

This paper discusses the outdoor thermal comfort of children's activity spaces in high-density urban residential areas in the summer. This is an excellent paper and very clearly states the gap and the conclusion. To this end, meteorological 11 measurements and questionnaires were conducted better to understand children's outdoor thermal 12 comforts in summer, and children's outdoor thermal comfort was evaluated using the universal thermal climate index (UTCI) for children's activity spaces in high-density residential areas of Chongqing, China.

Specific comments

1. This is an interesting study of thermal comfort in children, particularly for youngsters participating in outdoor activities; there isn't much research on this topic. So, I believe the issue one is how the author creates a proper questionnaire for the children because it is tough to obtain honest responses from children.
2. Do you consider the topic original or relevant in the field? Yes, it is quite important in the subject of thermal comfort in open space, despite the fact that the data was only collected over one season. The author could relate it to other seasons.

Does it address a specific gap in the field? Yes, it does. Open space is currently viewed as a resource for adults and not children. Consider constructing a children-friendly, open environment with a favorable microclimate.
3. What does it add to the subject area compared with other published material? Include compelling justification for the validated data of the questionnaire.
4. How does the author ensure that the children's responses are valid and honest? How long does the author converse with each child?

The conversation duration and how the author maintains the atmosphere while questioning the children should be observed.
5. Are the conclusions consistent with the evidence and arguments presented and do they address the main question posed? Yes, they are
6. Are the references appropriate? Indeed they are. Please refer to https://doi.org/10.1016/j.uclim.2019.100531 for references regarding Thermal Comfort Index in outdoor environments. (A review of outdoor thermal comfort indices and neutral ranges for hot-humid regions)
7. There is no comments on tables and figures
