Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The study of bubble spreading on SALTS is an interesting work. However, the presentation of the results and the language of the manuscript should be improved. Some specific comments for the revision are given below.

  1. first of all, there are two many typing errors. It is strongly recommended to check the text carefully and correct all of them. Some examples: in the abstract, line 17 "To to", line 26 "constact" should be "contact", in the introduction, line 37 "the capillary length a, surface tension..."  line 58 "buoyance" should be "buoyancy", in materials and methods, line 88 "trajectorywidths" should be "trajectory widths", line 99 "a Tygon tube the to connect the nozzle...", in Results and discussion, line 213 "aeroplilic" should be "aerophilic", line 323 "velocities, velocity, but in ...", line 343 "excerts" should be "exerts"
  2. English should be improved. Some sentences are too long and some of them are confusing. For example, line 41-42 "The mechanism effects (bubble deformation or velocity) and the drainage of the liquid film between the bubble and surface are one of the most ...", here "mechanism effects" and "one of" are confusing or misleading; Line 44-45 "..., the aspect ratio of a bouncing bubble before a rebound can be able to predict ...", here "be able to" usually used for somebody not something; The sentence is too long and confusing, "..., on the bubble spreading for better prediction of the bubble state and quantify the dyanmics of bubble spreading"; The sentence "...to located itself 6 mm horizontally above the nozzle outlet" is misleading. 6 mm is the vertical distance between the slide and the nozzle outlet or horizontal distance between the nozzle and the blocks? "contact the surface" should be "contact with the surface" or "touch the surface", "flatten bubble" should be "flattened bubble"; "...are present in Fig.3" should be "... are presented in Fig. 3"; "bubbles present to be a flattened shape on the surface..." better to use "tend to have"? "... is proposed to instead of the corresponding ...", better to use "replace"
  3. Please begin the sections with text instead of figures.
  4. "Anisotropic spreading" is a keyword, but the explanation and description of the special process are insufficient. It is helpful to compare at first the isotropic spreading results on SALS with those from the literature, e.g. the reference [13], and then discuss the difference between anisotropic spreading on SALT and isotropic spreading on SALS. Correspondingly, the structure of section 3 should be changed for sake of concision.
  5. In line 89 "(0.5mm-8mm)" should be (0.5mm-5mm)?
  6. No bouncing was observed for W=4mm, how about W=5mm or wider?
  7. "...the uniform SALSs and SALTs are discussed given bubble dynamics" is confusing
  8. In Eq. (1) the symbol "g" should be "δ"? And δ=h?
  9. In line 109 what denotes "SALABs"?

Anisotropic Spreading of Bubbles on 2 Superaerophilic Straight Trajectories beneath a Slide 3 in Water by

It is an interesting paper presenting experimental studies about bubble spreading on a surface with anisotropic superaerophilicity.

The structure of the paper is appropriate. However, in the introduction motivation of the research should be explained. Why authors are interested in this system? Also, applications of the findings should be mentioned (and explanation extended in the conclusion section). Authors should use more academic language, do not use personal pronouns (we) present perfect instead. The results and discussion section is too descriptive. Please add a bit more in-depth analysis of your results.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Please go through the whole manuscript once more, and try to improve the quality including language.

  1. Please explain the abbreviation "SALT" in the introduction, where it appears for the first time, instead of in section 2.1.
  2. "..., the bubble always execute multi-time rebounds on the SALTs...", please change "execute" to "executes"
  3. "As reported by De Maleprade et al. [15]., during the bubble approaching the superaerophilic surface, decreases linearly, and the water layer between the bubble and SALT is gradually squeezed away." Please remove the point behind [15], and provide the subject for "decreases linearly"
  4. "..., which may build a thicker coating with lower uniformity and this will be discussed further in section 3.3." I would suggest separating the sentence into two. "..., which may build a thicker coating with lower uniformity. This will be discussed further in section 3.3."
  5. I would suggest removing "critical" from "As proposed by several critical previous studies[15,18],..."
  6. Should be "is denoted as the contact size of the SALTs, r, like SALS, ..."?
  7. I would suggest reformating the sentence "..., which also can be seen in Fig. 4(d) from the reference [15] but wasn't discussed, ..."
  8. Changes suggested for this sentence: "The propagating bubble in regime (IV) for SALTs of 3–5 mm would be ruptured into two similar sub-bubbles with a velocity of ~ 0.3 m/s (Re ~ O2)."
  9. Please pay attention to the spaces between the numbers and the units, and unify them.
