This resubmitted version has accepted my previous comments, and I now think it is a fine paper to be acceptted by Water.
For one-dimensional simulation of water hammer problem, this should be one of the comprehensive and insight reviews.
However, 3D simulations of water hammer and pressure pulsations in pump-turbines and hydraulic systems should be the most important research direction of recent years.

This revised version is better in expression logic.
However, on the contents, I feel some new progress in 2D and 3D simulation methods for water hammer should be briefly addressed, because this manuscript is a review, which needs perspective views.

Also, the speedup of the existing methods by multiple CPU or GPU for efficient simulations of practical engineering problems should also be mentioned.
