The revised article is on the studies of  the water exchange in the Ulansuhai Lake.  Several characterises like the mineral contents and isotopic composition of water is taken into consideration.

The manuscript presents elaboration of a quite complex hydrologic system, in part natural, but with human-made components. The interrelations of the individual sections of the system and their influence on the compositions of the dissolved salts and isotopic data of oxygen and hydrogen of water are the investigation problems. A general scheme of these interrelations is the final result of the authors’ studies.

The problem is elaborated correctly and on the basis of a well-prepared scheme. The discussion is clear and conclusions convincing.

The text needs some improvements to remove certain stylistic and grammatical awkwardnesses. After this it would be ready to publication.

Lakes are complex unified natural systems in which hydrophysical, hydrochemical, hydrobiological and sedimentation processes interact. Anthropogenic eutrophication is one of those recently emerged consequences of human activity, in the ideas of which there are still many unclear sides. The complexity of this phenomenon lies in the inability to reverse the process that has already begun. Unlike conventional pollution, which can be avoided as a result of technological and other techniques, anthropogenic eutrophication is extremely difficult to avoid, since it is a side effect of human economic activity not so much on the reservoir itself as on its catchment area, and is superimposed on a gradual change in the morphometry of lakes. But this does not exclude the possibility of managing these processes and at the same time requires the development of criteria for social assessment - the degree of compliance of the state of lakes with the interests of rational nature management. Therefore, the manuscript of Yifan Han and co-authors devoted to the study of the influence of water diversion on the water system of Lake Ulansukhai is important for solving the problems of salinization of lakes.

There are the following comments on the manuscript:

  1. In our opinion, the results of the study are not very well summarized in the section "Conclusion". Some of the information from this section may be moved to Section 2.1. It is better to present conclusions for each stated task in the "Introduction" section: (1) hydrochemical characteristics and isotopes in water from Ulansukhai Lake, drainage channel and groundwater after water intake; (2) the effect of water diversion on water hydrochemistry; (3) a new model of the water cycle for this region; (4) key factors that can be used to solve existing problems with the quality of water in the lake.
  2. The references are not designed in accordance with the MDPI bibliographic style and are arranged in alphabetical order, not in the order of citation.
