Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper  describes Hydrochemical response of karst groundwater to rapid urbanization in Xingtai, North China Water samples from the late 2010s and the 1970s were analyzed using statistical analysis. The manuscript is divided into three main parts.
statistical  analysis, hydrochemical diagrams, and inverse simulation technology. Mostly, the attributions are done and justified about the characteristic features of the groundwater  samples. However, some precisions could be made:

Q1. In the abstract section lines (17-19) need modification.

Q2. Authors must mention different tools used in describing chemical composition in groundwater samples in Xingtai, North China in introduction section.

Q3. In  2.2.2 Statistical Analysis section, please mention the software program used in statistical analysis.

Q4. The resolution of Fig. 2 is not good.

Q5. Authors must add recommendation part in the conclusion section.

Reviewer 3 Report

In this study, the authors investigated the responses of the hydrochemical characteristics and evolution of karst groundwater to rapid urbanization. I think the authors should address the below concerns:

1. In figure 1, the authors should use the longitude and latitude.

2. What is the significance digit for pH? some is in 0.1 and some is in 0.01. similar to TDS.

3. I suggest the authors can use the elemental ratios to represent the contribution of urbanization.

4. In line 405, how is the accuracy of measuring Cl-. Why is it with 0.01? same to other ions.

5. Table 3, CO2 should be CO2

6. This manuscript focused on urbanization, why dose not the inverse hydrogeochemical modeling use anthropogenic inputs.

7. The authors investigated the water chemistry in groundwater. I think the ground water level is decreasing. How did ground water level decreasing affect water chemistry? And the hydrological conditions also affect solutes concentrations ( https://doi.org/10.1029/2020GB006541).

8. In Figure 2, What is the proportion for ions, in mg/L meq/L or mol/L? And i think the authors should compare with other global and karst studies (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0009-2541(99)00031-; https://doi.org/10.1029/2018JG004439)

9. Figure 5 is not clear.
