Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Drip Irrigation of Pepper
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
I have provided a copy of the manuscript with some minor editorial comments, but I also suggest that another paragraph be included at the end of the discussion regarding the importance of this research and its value to growers and scientific community. Generally a well-written manuscript. Just needs a better ending to the discussion section

Title: YIELD AND WATER USE EFFICIENCY OF DRIP IRRIGATION OF PEPPER
In this paper, the authors studied the effects of drip irrigation on pepper yield and water use efficiency.
However, it does need further work and clarification.
1. Introduction is too thin. There is a lot of literature available on this subject (i.e., water stress, drip irrigation, yield, water use efficiency etc) and authors need to review the literature more deeply (some examples of literature are at the bottom).
2. Materials and Methods: Authors need to include the additional soil properties (initial soil salinity and pH) and drip irrigation water quality (i.e., salinity and any other WQ parameters). These will also influence the yield.
3. Lines 86-88: What is the yearly climate variability for the region (i.e., rainfall, temperature and even Class A pan) – provide a graph.
4. Lines 90-100: Authors need to provide sketches/photos showing their experimental setup – for easy understanding of their experimental setup.
5. Lines 90-100: “Standard field management practices, e.g., seedbed preparation, fertilization, and plant protection, were applied at each experimental plot.”. What are the Standard field management practices – spell them out for readers.
6. Section 2.3: Provide a continuous measure of the Root-zone soil moisture for your experiments - key information missing – provide the graphs and interpretation to support your conclusion.
7. Improve Figures 2 to 4 (confusing) and the discussion needs a restructure.
8. Provide the different treatment impacts on plant heights, biomass, Leaf Area Index (LAI), etc
