Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The problem raised in the reviewed article is important not only on a local or regional scale, which was well emphasized by the authors in the introduction.

But,

1. The article requires significant editorial and linguistic corrections. Most of the comments of this type have been added to the text of the article in the attached PDF file.

2. The authors must significantly supplement the description of the methodology used, as deficiencies in this area give rise to doubts as to the reliability of the results obtained. First, the problem of tidal range in the analyzed satellite images was completely ignored. In a tidal environment, where the amplitude of the water level is large, the comparability of satellite images is only ensured when they were acquired in the same phase of the tidal cycle. Otherwise, the obtained surface differences of the water subenvironment and mudflats may be apparent. Secondly, important technical details of the segmentation/classification procedure used are missing. Practically this aspect has been overlooked in silence. Thirdly, the authors assumed that the validation performed on the last, most recent, satellite image from the analyzed set can be considered sufficient also for previous images. I have big doubts about that.

I enjoyed reading your paper.  I thought it was well written and presented findings that will be of value to others around the world interested in coastal wetlands.

I did find that the section presenting results in a matrix form was confusing. Please consider my suggestions and comments in the attached file.

AM useful survey of mangroves - no new approach but useful.

Title needs some English editing   Km in text fig(s) should be km

Species names should all be italic.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

In the revised version of their article, the authors made major changes, which mostly removed the shortcomings of the first version. This applies especially to the correction of many linguistic and editorial errors. The description of the methodology of segmentation and classification of satellite images has also been completed in a satisfactory manner. However, some doubts remained regarding the influence of the tidal phase during the registration of satellite images on the obtained results. The arguments of the authors in this regard are not fully convincing, but I believe that the general regularities found should not change. During the re-reading, I noted a dozen or so minor errors, mainly of a linguistic and editorial nature. After their correction, the reviewed article will be suitable for publication.
