Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript titled "Effects of Nano-Titanium Dioxide on the Horizontal Transfer of Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Microplastic Biofilms" by Yangyuan Zhou, Guosheng Zhang, Dawei Zhang, Weiying Li, Ningzheng Zhu, Jinpei Bo, Xiangzhou Meng, Yao Chen, Yu Qin, and Huajie Liu is quite interesting and addresses a broadly concerning research topic.

The authors present an approach to studying the effects of nano-titanium dioxide on bacterial biofilms, analyzing the conjugation transfer of ARGs, mRNA expression, and enzymatic activity using different detection kits at various concentrations of nano-titanium dioxide. According to the results presented, the impact of nano-titanium dioxide increases with its concentration in bacterial cultures. The results show that the effects are more pronounced in suspended bacterial cultures compared to biofilms. Additionally, the results indicate increased ROS and cell permeability at concentrations up to 50 mmol/L. These evaluations provide new insights into a possible pathway for the mechanism of ARG conjugation.

I consider the manuscript suitable for publication after clarifying the size and shape of the nano-titanium dioxide particles. Including the particle properties will enhance and strengthen the impact of the results by relating the effects to specific morphologies. Different sizes and shapes are associated with different properties and thus different biological effects. Please provide at least the numerical values; electron microscopy analysis is suggested.
