Resource Opportunity in China’s Market Transition and Governance: Time Factor in Urban Housing Inequality
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Thank you for this interesting article, just a few remarks:
L(ine)57- please give a brief explanation of the Matthew Effect/add references.
L64- "many scholars" - please add a reference(s)
L97 - "Party membership" -plaese add the full name, and a few words more about the "income advantage" phenomena as it is a basis of H2 (L138).
Table 2 (and other): Please cancel single/;double lines - you use asterisks already- underlining and asterisks together are incomprehensible (("p<0.001, ** p<0.01, * p<0.05, ! p<0.1 Double underline is p<0.05. Single underline is p<0.1)) or explain better/in other way.
Figures are of low quality.
The discussion section should be richer, discussing results with literature in China and international - the topic is interesting and a lot of studies are in place - please add them to your discussion.
The literature section is only 27 positions, good discussion would enrich also that section.
The overall assessment is positive, thank you and good luck!
Author Response
Thank you for your suggestions. All of your suggestions are very important. They are of important guiding significance for my thesis writing and research!
Point 1: L(ine)57- please give a brief explanation of the Matthew Effect/add references.
Response 1: Thanks for your kind suggestion. Because of our carelessness, the proposal of this concept is very abrupt and does not meet rigorous academic standards. We have given the explanation of the Matthew Effect, and add the references.
Point 2: L64- "many scholars" - please add a reference(s)
Response 2: Thanks for your advice. We have added the references here.
Point 3: L97 - "Party membership" -plaese add the full name, and a few words more about the "income advantage" phenomena as it is a basis of H2 (L138).
Response 3: Thanks for the kind suggestion. We have realized this is a big shortcoming and added the full name here. We also discussed the main channels for party membership as political capital to increase personal income in this part.
Point 4: Table 2 (and other): Please cancel single/;double lines - you use asterisks already- underlining and asterisks together are incomprehensible (("p<0.001, ** p<0.01, * p<0.05, ! p<0.1 Double underline is p<0.05. Single underline is p<0.1)) or explain better/in other way.
Response 4: Thanks for the advice. We are very sorry for our carelessness, and have already cancelled the lines.
Point 5: Figures are of low quality.
Response 5: Thanks for your suggestion, we have carefully remade all the figures.
Point 6: The discussion section should be richer, discussing results with literature in China and international - the topic is interesting and a lot of studies are in place - please add them to your discussion. The literature section is only 27 positions, good discussion would enrich also that section.
Response 6: Thanks for your good evaluation and kind suggestion. After your guidance, we are also aware of this shortcoming in this section. We have added a discussion about the mixed economic form characterized by the coexistence of the market and redistribution. Meanwhile we explained the objective institutional background that cannot be avoided when discussing market transformation issues. Then we added 15 references to enrich the literature section.
Thank you again for your suggestions, and we hope to learn more from you.
Reviewer 2 Report
This is an interesting study about China's market transition and housing inequality. The authors assessed the influence of variables such as market value and age on the temporal changes in the housing market.
- The authors need to improve the discussion section by discussing the result in the context of existing literature.
- In line 359, "hypothesis 3a is not directly proven true or false." might need to be reconsidered.
- In the text, the authors mention an appendix with more details. However, there is no appendix at the end of the manuscript.
- The manuscript needs copy-editing to improve the use of language. For example, in line 282, "am OLS model based on mean estimation" should be changed to "an OLS model based on mean estimation".
In line 341, "private capital flew into the" should be changed to "private capital flowed into the".
In line 519, "As aforementioned mentioned" should be changed.
