Reviewer 1 Report

Review

The study submitted for review falls under current and important issue - the hollowing process of rural communities, which is caused by migration. The paper includes a sufficient amount of data and methods to qualify for a scientific paper, however, the way of presenting the material require some improvements.

Remarks on Materials and Methods

The characteristics of the Study Area only include the name of Province. Lack of information about geographic location, map, the demographic conditions (e.g. number, education, age structure of the inhabitants), total area, agricultural land, etc.

Who was the 15 experts  and researchers online to determine the index weights?

Remarks on main results and discussion:

The Discussion is very poorly presented, there are only references to 4 items of literature.

Remarks on conclusions:

The conclusions are too laconic, they need to be refined.

Remarks on References:

Very poor references.

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript is interesting, and the applied concept of research is relevant.
However, please include the term 'rural resilience' just short in the theoretical part, let your research methods be more detailed, and use somewhat bigger charts in the text in order to figure them better out.
I wonder if you could give a short reflection in your manuscript about the relevancy of your results in a non-Chinese context, I mean, outside the PRC, since the described processes and problems may be present in other Asian countries (e.g. in some with similar political context, e.g. Vietnam, Laos), as well, to some degree, I suppose.

Author Response

1.However, please include the term 'rural resilience' just short in the theoretical part, let your research methods be more detailed,

Response: We reference to the rural resilience literature, and include the term 'rural resilience' in the theoretical part

2.use somewhat bigger charts in the text in order to figure them better out.

Response: The figure was adjusted as required

3.I wonder if you could give a short reflection in your manuscript about the relevancy of your results in a non-Chinese context, I mean, outside the PRC, since the described processes and problems may be present in other Asian countries (e.g. in some with similar political context, e.g. Vietnam, Laos), as well, to some degree, I suppose.

Response: According to the hollowing process of different countries, for example, Japan began to experience hollowing process in 1970, and China was accompanied by accelerated population movement, and the hollowing problem became increasingly serious from 2000. Therefore, the research on China's hollowing in the current article, It can provide reference for Vietnam and other Asian countries that are undergoing rapid urbanization process. The specific content has been added in the article.
