Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

The topic of your research is an interesting one. Some aspects must be improved:

- which are the limits of the research? And how they were overcome?

- you must add directions for future studies at the end of conclusion section and the contribution to the research field of you study.

Author Response

Please see the attachment. Thank you very much.

Reviewer 2 Report (Previous Reviewer 2)

The author has made relatively comprehensive revisions to the paper based on their previous comments, and I suggest that it can be published.

Author Response

Thank you very much for your constructive comments and suggestions which would help us in depth to improve the quality of the paper.

Reviewer 3 Report (Previous Reviewer 3)

Thank you for addressing all my suggestions.

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,

The study is an interesting one, only a few aspects must be added:

-in the introduction part maybe, you could add the aim of your research, the hypothesis;

-in the conclusion part your proposals to reduce the migration phenomena would be interesting

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors put forward a meaningful research perspective. Also, the research results provide a useful reference for many countries to solve the problems of human-land relationship and rural development.

There is still some room for improvement in the paper:

1. The authors have provided a very logical introduction and theoretical framework. However, the author should strengthen the relationship between the theoretical framework and empirical content. Currently, the theoretical framework provided by the author is more like a review.

2. Whether there is any duplication between the first paragraph of Part III and the last paragraph of Part I, please carefully consider and modify it.

3. Please ensure that the letters in the formula have a unique interpretation.

4. The subject of this study is land disposal methods. According to the meaning of the variables selected by the authors, the theme of their research should be the treatment of rural contracted land.

5. At present, most studies control the age of rural migrant population at the age of 16-65. The authors provided a lower 15 age limit for sample selection in this paper. Is it necessary to control people over 65 years of age?

6. Authors are requested to provide a descriptive statistical table.

7. In section 3.2, please note that the survey involves “mainland China”, not the “entire country”.

8. Please present the results of the Moran Index in an appropriate way by table or figure.

9. Authors should consider providing an Ethical Statement for CMDS surveys.

10. There is a significant relationship between the behavior of migrant populations in disposing of contracted land and whether there are agricultural labor forces in their former rural residences. The authors are invited to consider this situation in their research content and discussions.

Reviewer 3 Report

Congratulations on your excellent contribution to the academic literature.

I went through this article carefully, and my main concern is the reference for a few statements. The way they are written makes me think they are statements from the authors, not statements based on references.

You can try to define "contracted land" better.

Lines 33-34: Reference to support this.

Lines 38-40: Reference to support this.

Lines 44-47: Important statement and deserve a reference to make it stronger.

Lines 53-56: Reference.

Lines 84-87: Reference to support this.

Lines 91-95: Which theory: It deserves reference.

Lines 103-108: Not sure if it is possible to make it stronger with reference.

Line 150: Not sure if people will understand what "spiritual lubricant" means.

Lines 157-163: Is that possible to add a reference here?

Lines 179-186: Is that possible to have reference here?

Line 270: Is "Table 1" your creation? Or is there concepts which deserve a reference to support it? If the indicators are coming from the theoretical analysis, you can try to relate things here.
