Lodgepole Pine and White Spruce Thinning in Alberta―A Review of North American and European Best Practices
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
I've read your manuscript and feel that it contributes to enhancing our understanding of intensity, timing, and types of silvicultural thinning and their impacts on crop tree growth responses. Suitable literatures have been cited and their results have been discussed properly.
One issue I had to point out was that access to tables 1 and 2 was limited as they extend outside the page borders.
I've attached a copy of the draft manuscript with comments inserted.

Reviewer 2 Report
The authors reviewed the thinning treatments of two tree species and their effects, as well as various disturbance types interacting with the thinning. The topic of the manuscript falls into the scope of the journal. The manuscript is structured clearly and well written.
Specific concerns:
I am wondering whether the authors considered the recovery of two tree species after thinning treatments?
More quantitative description of the section “Risk factors” is encouraged to give, e.g. biomass reduction of two tree species resulted from drought, insect breakout, wind or snow.
