Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper developed a modified remote sensing ecological index with salinity adaptability, and analyzed the spatial-temporal evolution of EEQ in the TRB from 2000 to 2022. There were several questions should be solved.

1. The objectives of this paper would be listed in the end of Introduction.

2. What is the novelty of this study? I think it was not expressed clearly in Introduction.

3. The quality of Fig.3 should be improved. Some numbers and colors would be adjusted.

4. L283-293: This was a paper, and these sentences should be organized in a paragraph, not listed as (1), (2), (3),.....

5. Fig.5: I think all these indices should be normalized to 0-1.

The quality of English language should be improved.

The ecological dilemma of the Tarim River Basin (TRB), particularly soil salinization, has intensified due to climate change and human activities. Rapid and accurate access to regional eco-environmental Quality (EEQ) and its corresponding response mechanisms is essential. In this study, a modified remote sensing ecological index with salinity adaptability (RSEISI) has been developed to overcome the limitations of the traditional RSEI in the Northwest Arid Region. The manuscript has strong innovation and is of good writing, so I recommends acceptance after minor modification of several questions.

1. Some references should be added for the 2.1. Study Area.

2. Please highlight the objective and its novelty in the Introduction.

3. Please added the accessed time of data in the section of 2.2.

5. Please added the reasons how to choose these indices.

6. How to validate the evaluating results.

7. The references of classification levels?

8. Some more recent references should be still added in the Discussion.

Thanks for all your work, this research is interesting and comprehensive. In response to the limitations of traditional RSEI in arid areas of northwest China, the author developed an improved salinity adaptive remote sensing ecological index (RSEISI). The article incorporates the Comprehensive Salinity Index (CSI) into RSEI to explore its sensitivity and spatiotemporal trends in soil salinity.   I recommend publishing this research in Land. To make the paper complete, here are a few questions and friendly suggestions. The details are as follows.

1. Lines 13-35. The abstract of the article is the eye of the article. This abstract contains too much content. The author must introduce key points and innovations, rather than repeat the analysis of results.

2.The introduction section of the author introduces a large amount of background information about RSEI, but the expression of some sentences requires additional literature as support. I strongly recommend that the author refer to the following references in this sentence to improve its scientificity.  Lines 42-45, The ecological environmental Quality (EEQ) is a comprehensive manifestation of ecological elements, structures, and functions, which serve as an indicator of the ecosystem's suitability for human survival and socio-economic development[1-2].

3.There are many abbreviations in the article, please pay attention to checking the uppercase and lowercase in the sentences. For example:Line 42,ecological environmental Quality (EEQ)
