Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors,

The topic addressed is very interesting, but the article seems a bit descriptive. Below are some ideas to improve it.
1.
At point 2.3 including 2.3.1. more concrete examples.
2. Related to the concept of geotourism, there are several opinions and several important authors who are omitted.
3. The subsection related to methodology should be greatly expanded.
4. Explain how figure 2 was made. It should also be analyzed more.
5. The discussions should be expanded with more examples. it would be good if there were examples from various geographical areas to illustrate the concept.
6. What are the so-called products of nostalgic tourism?

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors,

The work presented is quite interesting, and shows the relationship between new forms of tourism, based on the incorporation of geological heritage and all that it entails (landforms, aesthetics, spectacular scenery, etc.), to promote knowledge of the landscape and its formation as a new tourist experience, and also for the public to reach an emotional commitment to appreciate the geological and natural heritage of a region.

It gives a very good introduction to the most important concepts of the work: nostalgia, nostalgia tourism and geotourism. Especially in the definition of geotourism where the most important and worldwide referenced documents are mentioned.

Suggestions for improvement and corrections:

-Line 137: Replace ‘the bygone era,’ by ‘the bygone era’, - the comma after the quote. Always refer to the same style of inverted commas  '...‘ or "..." as indicated by the publisher's rules for publication.

-Line 148: Replace ‘roots tourism,’ by ‘roots tourism’, - the comma after the quote.

-Lines 205-227: Although it is mentioned in the middle of the text (lines 220-221), you should begin the wording of this section by referring to ‘geotourists’ as those who visited Slovakia or Upper Hungary, decades or centuries ago, is this the case?

-Lines 250-254: I suggest that the hypothesis be placed next to the text, not on a separate line, i.e.: “We framed the hypothesis as a conditional statement regarding the relationship between geotourism and nostalgic tourism. That is, there is geotourism that incorporates elements of nostalgic tourism”.

-Lines 292-294. When you say of ‘a nostalgic presentation of historical facts’, in relation to the new term Nostalgic Geotourism, do you refer to geological and geomorphological facts of the past, which explain the evolution of the geological history of the planet and the current configuration of the landscape? Do you refer to historical facts developed by Mankind, in relation to geology and geomorphology (e.g. mining exploitation, topographical configuration and location of certain economic and urban activities...), or to a combination of both facts - natural, abiotic and anthropic? This is where the term Nostalgic Geotourism should be made clear and well defined, beyond the examples given in the following lines.

-Lines 296-297, figure 2: Correct the errata in ‘Nostagic tourism’ to ‘Nostalgic Tourism’.

-Line 304: Replace ‘situated’ by ‘located’.

-Line 325: Replace ‘vistas’ by ‘views’.

-Lines 328 and 355: Correct the typo ,, should it be in inverted commas?

-Lines 300-373. The descriptions of Mount Oblík, Carpathian Mts. in 1844 by the referenced author Adam Hlovík are well selected. But, I miss the authors to make some conclusion or comment on these descriptions, in relation to the term Nostalgic Geotourism. For example, what elements of abiotic nature (geology, geomorphology, topography) does Adam Hlovík emphasize over the rest; what elements denote the nostalgia of this author, Hlovík, or of the authors of the manuscript, in relation to the descriptions or the way they are made; or any other kind of commentary that would make the new term coined in the manuscript clearer.

-Line 380: open inverted commas for the text, if it is a literal quotation from the author Paulíny-Tóth.

-Lines 380-394: I also miss the authors to make some conclusion or comment on the descriptions of the author Paulíny-Tóth, in relation to the term Nostalgic Geotourism.

-Lines 453-461, section 6: you refer to some limitations of the work presented in the manuscript. Your are sincere but, in addition to concluding that ‘future research should address this gap by exploring how different marketing approaches can maximize the potential of nostalgic geotourism’, I suggest that you launch possible future lines of action, without going into detail or in-depth descriptions, aimed at:

  -capturing the breadth of possibilities of nostalgic geotourism;

  -possible applications in the presentation of landscapes;

  -ways/methods to take into account regional variations or diverse cultural contexts that may influence Nostalgic Geotourism;

  -how to implement marketing for the success of nostalgic geotourism.

-References:

There are mismatches between different references in terms of typeface and font size, especially in web links in DOIs. Typeface and font size should be adjusted to the publisher's publication standards.

-Tittle:

I suggest that you should incorporate in the title, the reference to the study area on which you are based to define Nostalgic Geotourism, since the examples and descriptions focus on the region between Hungary and Slovakia, mainly.

Perhaps it could be: ‘Nostalgic Geotourism as a New Form of Landscape Presentation: an application to the (Tatras Region / Carpathian Mountains / Upper Hungary - Slovakian mountains)which fits better with the study carried out.

---

I believe that with the suggestions and changes that I propose, the final result of the manuscript will be much better and will be of greater scientific significance.

Best regards.
