Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1) This paper introduces a balancing study of four-star type crank linkage. Justification of the novelty of the study with respect to other important contributions should be improved.

2) Mathematic notation and expressions in paragraphs should be used properly.

3) The differential equations to describe the vibrating system dynamics should be presented in detail.

4) Include information of natural frequencies of the system under study.

5) Resonant vibrations should be considered in the study.

6) Include detailed information about the system parameters for vibration analysis.

7) Numerical Parametric Information of stiffness and damping coefficients should be presented.

8) More analysis should be presented to highlight the innovations of this work. Describe in detail how your study significantly advances the state-of-the-art in this topic.

9) Time responses of forced dynamic system trajectories for operating conditions of variable speed should be described.

10) Make sure that all variables and parameters of equations and figures are described in paragraphs.

Reviewer 2 Report

1. The introduction does not provide sufficient background of the state of the art of the analysed topic. Therefore, the novelty of the presented study from the scientific point of view is not completely clear. The authors restrict themselves to numerical simulations using standard commercial software. The scientific contribution to the topic is not clear.

2. The entire third chapter describes only the background of the software without any contribution of the manuscript authors. Therefore, in the reviewer's opinion, it should be shortened just briefly presenting the main equations of state that are directly related to the study.

3. The text in Figures 4.1 5.3(b), 5.4, 5.5 is unreadable.

4. There is no much information about the dimensions of the analysed mechanism.

5. The conclusions are not fully supported by the results, as for example there are claims about structural strength while there is no research on the strength of the crankshaft presented. Overall, the conclusions sound very general, and there are trivial statements such as “The design of the main linkage is critical”.
