2.1. Study Design
2.2. Clinical Assessment
2.3. Assessment of Sleep Breathing Disorders
- Oxygen saturation levels: measured by pulse oximetry;
- Respiratory events, including:
- Sleep/wake status: indication of whether the patient was awake or asleep during various periods of the night;
- The number of arousals: measurement of the number of times the patient had woken up or became partially awake during the night;
- Sleep efficiency: measurement of the percentage of time the patient spent asleep during the night;
- Actigraphy information: estimation of wakefulness and sleep according to the patient’s motion as measured by an accelerometer located on the patient’s wrist [41];
- Sleep stages: detection and determination of light sleep, deep sleep, and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep stages.
