The paper discusses an important issue of youth migration in Southern Europe. The research context and theoretical framework are appropriately discussed, and the research questions are clearly formulated. There is sufficient information on the methodology and research design. The research results are clearly presented and discussed, and the conclusions are in line with the results.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors

It was a  pleasure to read your interesting paper entitled 'At the origins of migration choices: A survey of students at two South European universities'.

As a reviewer, I would recommend considering the following points:

-please clarify the aim of the paper. And synchronise the aim of the paper in the Abstract and Introduction (lines 32 - 35) and (lines 116 - 117)

- please consider adding references to relevant studies in human geography (Introduction, lines 45 - 46)

- suggestion to consider if the comparison mentioned  (lines 58 - 68) is necessary to include

- I would recommend rewriting RQs for clarity and exposing the essence of the study

- when talking about choosing particular case studies (lines 132 - 136), it would be nice to see not only references to previous studies but also specific indicators showing the international population, for example, or rates of unemployment.  I suggest adding available statistical data regarding mentioned topics.

- Line 192 - we tried to develop a multiple regression model. Please rephrase. I suggest using - we applied multiple regression model

- It was interesting to read about the Proactivity variable, and it would be novel to develop this aspect more.

- Finally, I would recommend revising the beginning of Conclusive remarks (lines 313 - 323). At the current form of the discussion and conclusions, I would suggest merging these two separate sections into one.

- Good luck!
