Review report for Manuscript number metals-672530: "Additive manufacturing with superduplex stainless steel wire by CMT process"
Before publication can be considered the manuscript needs further work.
General comments, corrections, and suggestions:
Highlights – The keywords, “superduplex stainless steel” is included in the title. Please consider another keyword.Page 1, rows 30-33 – The word “used” appear many times in the sentence that starts with “A widely used powder ...”.
Page 1, row 34 – In the sentence that contains “…direct metal deposition (DMD) process, and utilizes …” the “and” should be replaced with e.g. “which”.
Page 1, rows 43-44 – The sentence that starts with “This enables much lower heat input …” should be rephrased for better readability.
Page 2, row 64 – According to international standard of units there should be a space between the value and the unit, i.e. it should be 650-950 °C. Please go through the manuscript an correct everywhere it is necessary.
Page 2, row 74 – “conte nt” should be “content”.
Page 2, Table 1 – All values in the table has two value figures, except for W. Why does W content in the wire have only one value figure? Why is the W content not included for the BM?
Page 2, Table 1 – “How was the chemical composition determined? It should be mentioned in the manuscript there the numbers come from.
Page 2, Table 1 – Is it relevant to give an S content of 0.0010 and 0.0003 when the amount is much higher for all other elements?
Page 3, rows 99-103 – How was the dimensions of the round bars determined and how good was the accuracy in the measurements of the diameters? In the text it is mentioned that the diameter is 4 mm. This means that the diameter of the round bars can be everything between 3.50-4.49 mm, which will affect the results of the tensile test significantly. Can the variations observed in Figure 4-6 be because of slightly different diameters of the round bars used in the tensile tests? This needs to be clarified.
Page 4, rows 115-116 – That equipment was used in the hardness tests? Please describe.
Page 4, Figure 3 – Please add in the figure caption what the purpose is for the red dashed lines in the figure.
Page 6, rows 152-154 – Is the statement in the sentence that starts with “More important is that …” correct or can it just appears to be, although it is actually different diameters of the round bars that give this observation?
Page 7, row 197 – Replace the word “plotted” with e.g “shown”, “presented” or “displayed”.
Page 10, row 263 – Is the given values (0.49-0.56 vol.%) correct?
Page 10, row 279 – “…, there is typical 80-90% ferrite yang”
Figure 12 – What is the red dashed line representing? Please include in the figure caption.
Figure 14 – What is the black dashed line representing? Please include in the figure caption.
Conclusion:
The manuscript entitled " Additive manufacturing with superduplex stainless steel wire by CMT process " is a well-written report although it needs improvements before publication can be considered.
