The authors wish to make the following erratum to this paper [1]:
Under section 3.3 “Synchrotron XRD—Phase Fractions, Carbon Partitioning and Dislocation Densities” sub heading “Measuring Dislocation Densities” an edit to the original text was made but not indicated to the authors. The phrase, “Unfortunately, the W–H values for dislocation densities were not physically high for both alloys, almost certainly because tetragonality-induced peak splitting was present” should read, “Unfortunately, the W–H values for dislocation densities were unphysically high for both alloys, almost certainly because tetragonality-induced peak splitting was present”. Obviously, this small change completely alters the meaning of the text. In actual fact, the W–H dislocation densities were of the order of 1019 m−2 which is clearly impossible, hence the argument for tetragonality. The authors feel that this is an important point because there is currently some debate on the tetragonality of supersaturated bainitic ferrite. It has been pointed out that quenched martensite at similar carbon contents does not show any tetragonality [2] and this is certainly a valid counter-argument. However, we feel that the situation may be different for fresh bainitic ferrite studied at the transformation temperature where the carbon content is dynamically evolving as the transformation proceeds. Clearly further experimental work is required to resolve this question.
The authors would like to apologize for any confusion caused to readers by this unfortunate change.
