Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper's purpose is to study the effect of solution and aging treatments on the microstructure and tensile properties of Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn alloy. The subject is interesting, analyzing the variation of traditional elements in alloys used mainly in the Aerospatiale industry. The paper is well written. The subject to be studied is well presented in the introduction, but with old references (only 9% in the last five years). The methods are not clearly presented but are the classical methodology for preparing and characterizing this class of materials. Some points must be clarified. The results are interesting, and their analysis is adequate, based on adequate earlier findings. The conclusions are solid, supported by good results. This paper may add knowledge for the production of new alloys for the industry. I suggest its publication after the elucidation of the following points:

  • How were the alloys prepared? Are commercial alloys?
  • What was the used method for chemical analysis of the alloys?
  • Were the treatments made in a vacuum or inert atmosphere?
  • Oxygen is a strong alpha stabilizer element. What is the oxygen content in the original alloys? What is the oxygen control made in the treatments?

The references are not recent, with only 2 (9%) in the last five years. I think it essential to include more recent references.

Dear Authors,

I have read your paper "Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Tensile Property of Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn Alloy" carefully.

This paper describes the investigation of the post-processing of the Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn Alloy. The general novelty is the new data about the microstructure and the tensile strength of the Ti-alloy.

The paper is easy to read.

But the methods are not properly described, so that other research groups may not reproduce them.

The paper is interesting. However, it requires few corrections.

  1. There are mistakes in the number of sections.
  2. The Introduction content includes group citations of articles, such groupings should be avoided. More details on the quoted papers should be provided.
  3. Please, add information about materials and methods of the fabrication of the alloy.
  4. Please, add information about the content of the O, C, N into the alloy.
  5. Line 69. Please, describe the acronyms: WQ, AC.
  6.  Please, add and describe the SEM images of the fractures of the tensile specimens.
  7. Is there a decrease in the elastic modulus for specimens after heat treatment? Did you use an extensometer?
  8. Please specifically discuss the advantages of your work. Some parts of your conclusion can be writing in the discussion section.

The paper can be accepted for publication only after major improvements.

Dear Authors,

I have read your modified paper "Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Tensile Property of Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn Alloy" carefully.

The materials and methods are properly described, so that other research groups may reproduce them. Explanations are clear and the paper is easy to read.

I can recommend the Editor to accept this revised manuscript to be published in Metals.
