Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors presented manuscript titled “Synthesizing of Metallized Acrylic Containing both Gadolinium and Lead as a Transparent Radiation Shielding Material and Its Physical Properties”. Manuscript is well written, with adequately chosen techniques. All results is good presented and explained. The subject of the investigation is interesting and actual. They improved ZWT constitutive model by replacement the standard elastic component with Mooney–Rivlin hyperelastic model. I would like to congratulate authors on well done job.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this manuscript, acrylic metallized polymers with the participation of gadolinium and lead are investigated. The article is well written. Contains a representative literature review, a qualitative experiment, and well-described results. The conclusions correspond to the tasks set. I recommend this work for publication in Metals journal.

Reviewer’s comments

This article should be major revised.

The reason is as follows;

  1. There is no explanation of the modified ZWT constitutive equation. Therefore, the parameters of Table 3 such as C01, C02, E1, θ1 are not assigned. Authors had better show the ZWT equation and explain what the parameters are.

  1. In Figure 5 and 6, I wonder whether the linear regions of the stress- strain curve are the elastic region or not. Authors had better confirm that the hysteric loops appear or not in this region.

  1. It seems that the E1 in the ZWT equation corresponds to Young’ modulus in the bulk material. Author should explain the reason why the linear region depends on the strain-rate and temperature.

  1. Author is talking about “no distinct yield stage can be observed” in P8 line 263. It seems curious because we can clearly see the elastic-plastic transition in the stress-strain curves in Fig5 and Fig6. Could you show your definition of distinct yield stage?

  1. P3, line 126-128: Author should concretely show that names of the used machine and the factories.

  1. P3, line 132 and 134: Generally speaking, the strain-rates should be described with a power of 10.

  1. P4, line 146-149: The structure of sentences should be grammatically corrected.

  1. P5, line 200 -201: In Fig1, there is no name and unit of the vertical axis.

  1. P6, line 212-213: Check the sentences.

  1. P6, line 223: What is the effects of Pb in this paragraph? The title of 3.5 includes Pb.

  1. P8, line 272: In Fig5 (b), there is no figure caption.

  1. P8, line 273: Title in 3.7.2 should be changed because the title does not correspond to the contents of this paragraph.

  1. P8-10: In 3.7 section, the quantity of Gd(MAA)3 in Fig5 and Fig6 should be described.
