Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The accurate identification and characterization of non-metallic inclusions in steel are very important for their control. Different inclusions adopt various control means. Generally, the inclusions are characterized by SEM-EDS. In the present paper, the authors have provided another characterization method with Roman spectrum. It will be a good supplement on the detection of inclusions and save time. The structure and organization of the paper are logic, and the expression and description are also clear. One small suggestion is on the use of ”oxide-CaS” in title. Generally, it refers to the compounded inclusion composed by oxide and CaS. In fact, the paper is not only on the compounded inclusions, but also including oxide, independent CaS. Thus, it should not be “oxide-CaS non-metallic inclusions……”, perhaps the expression as “oxide and CaS non-metallic inclusions……”is more accurate.

P7 in line 228 “present as non-metallic inclusions in the steel” should be “presented as……”

Reviewer 2 Report

I rate the work well. However, some elements are missing, making its reception difficult. On the basis of the data contained in the work, the experiment cannot be recreated.

*The purpose of the research was clearly defined.

* No chemical composition of the sampled material.

* Figure 1. This Raman spectra for CA, Al2O3, MgO.Al2O3, C3A, CaS, and C12A7 obtained from syn-104 thetic phases prepared in previous studies [17-19].

It should be written

Figure 1. The Raman spectra for CA, Al2O3, MgO.Al2O3, C3A, CaS, and C12A7 obtained from syn-104 thetic phases prepared in previous studies [17-23]

* There is a lack of microstructures with nonmetallic inclusions in the work.
