Reviewer 2 Report

This study conducted an experiment and simulation method for mechanical ventilation solutions to improve the indoor air quality and thermal environment of rural houses. The results gave the suggestions that the ventilation ways can effectively help the prevention of CO and benefit the indoor thermal environment. This study is relatively well-written study, sufficient data analysis, useful experiment, reliable structure, and detailed comparison. The current manuscript can be considered after a certain revision. The detailed comments can be found below:

(1) What are the devices for the parameters of CO2, CO, PM10, PM2.5, formaldehyde, TVOC, temperature and relative humidity? A necessary introduction should be provided.

(2) When the experiment was conducted, what are the status of outdoor weather conditions?

(3) What is the control equation for CO calculation? The control equation did not consider it.

(4) The software descriptions of ICEM, ANSYS are not fully correct. Ansys fluent, icem cfd

(5) Redraw the picture 9(c) and put the exterior window penetration locations.

(6) The descriptions of “cloud map” in figure 12 is not professional, contour is correct. Please also check the whole content and revise the possible typos.

(7) The current version lacked a discussion section. The limitation and further consideration is welcome to enhance the quality of this study.

(8) In the figure 11-14, the main comments are the quality of figures, not clear, please if possible, redraw those ones.

(9) Last but not the least, please quantitative the comparisons results. A table or dash plot was suggested to present the info.
