Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This abstract requires modification, as it does not demonstrate its strength in its current form.

Introduction, also needs to be modified. It could also highlight recent research on why Twitter is an important tool for learning.

The theoretical section, can be added at the end of introduction.

Therefore, it is important to investigate how this social networking application is af- 73 fecting students’ learning and what students think about this application for their aca- 74 demics. In addition, how students’ judgment about a social networking application and 75 their academic thinking affects their academic performance. The purpose of this study is 76 to explore students’ judgment about Twitter use and how time spent on Twitter affects 77 their GPA. Vygotsky’s and Bandura’s social learning theory guided this study to see 78 whether social aspects, such as communicating with peers and instructors using Twitter 79 helping students in their academics.   Add more recent works as well Effect of social media use on learning, social interactions, and sleep duration among university students

The paper studies the relationship between students' judgement about Twitter use for academic purpose and their academic performance. A mixed method was used to analyze the research data

The used methodology is quite clearly described in its different constituting phasess, however I believe that the description of the questions used should be improved. To this purpose, I would suggest the authors to better explain the main structure of the questionnaire, clarifying the areas of investigation and to add examples of questions.

Moreover, some details should be clarified. For example, how were the six categories (major themes) developed starting from the participants' opinions, defined?

I am quite suprise that no significant differences based on groups were found.

The presentation of the merged results is quite trivial, I would expect some more complex method for merging the quantitative and qualitative data.

The cited references are relevant to the research
