Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Understanding the mechanism of action of melatonin that in-2 duces ROS production in cancer cells.

There are many recent reviews concerning the use of melatonin in the treatment of cancer and its dual activity as antioxidant and pro-oxidant in cancer cells. However, this review is concerned about the biochemical mechanisms involved. This s submission by Escames et al, aims to describe and clarify the proposed mechanism of action of melatonin inducing ROS production in cancer cells in order to propose future anti neoplastic clinical applications.

The manuscript is well written and organized, recent references are also included. I suggest considering the following reference: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biochi.2022.05.008.

Therefore I suggest to publish in the present form after minor mispelling corrections.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors, congratulations on the review article. After a careful reading, I have no objection to the publication as it stands.

My only suggestion is that the passage that begins at the top of page 8 ("It is also suggested...") be inserted in item 3.3, because there is a discussion about HIF there.
