Reviewer 2 Report

The MS, "The use of genetic material of Tall Wheatgrass to protect common wheat from Septoria blotch in Western Siberia" deals with the use of wheat alien relatives to look for resistance sources against devastating Septoria blotch. The authors selected the lines that combined leaf and ear resistance to damage with high yield and grain quality were selected.

The work is of direct interest to the breeders as they are always looking for potential resistance sources to incorporate desirable traits in their program. The strength of the MS is evident from the use of four years data and non-conventional germplasm. Hence, it needs to be published.

I have made some comments in the attached file for subsequent corrections.

Dear reviewer!

We thank you for your attentive and friendly review of our manuscript.

All your recommendations have been accepted.

Changes were made during the revision of the manuscript:

1) added the reference Arif et al. (2023);

2) English has been corrected;

3) lines 70-72. “Z. tritici and P. nodorum secrete 70 dozens of effectors, some of them cause cell necrosis and appear toxin properties (NE-effectors). This leads to the appearance of characteristic disease symptoms on plant organs”

NE-effectors (necrosis effectors) with various functions are described in the articles of McDonald & Solomon (2018),  Faris & Friezen (2020) (Ref. 18, 19). Some NE-effectors induce a hypersensitive reaction, others disrupt the membranes and cause large necrotic lesions.

4) in the Figure 2, the axis signatures have been corrected.

Best regards!
