Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled “Establishing Critical Leaf Nutrient Concentrations and Identification of Yield Limiting Nutrients for Precise Nutrient Prescriptions in Oil Palm (Elaeisguineensis Jacq) Plantations” reported the soil fertility and leaf nutrient concentrations in oil palm plantations of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, and also, the author developed the optimum leaf nutrient ranges use DRIS. The manuscript need reconsider after major revision for agriculture.

1. Check words and grammar in the manuscript, there are some type errors.

2. Oil palm is introduced not too sufficient. The nutrient limiting factors, suitable soil conditions, climatic conditions, and planting techniques of oil palm should introduced in the introduction part of the manuscript.

3. DRIS indices calculation should describe more clarity in the 2. Statistical analysis and estimation of DRIS indices. Such as, N/P, n/p. What does they mean?

4. It would be better that the results use chart to display. The soil fertility, leaf nutrient concentrations, and yield of oil palm of oil palm plantations were relatively simple. How about the relationship among them?

5. in the discussion, the evaluation and application of DRIS indices were important. The authors should supplement the relevant content of the DRIS indices estimation and how to use for efficient nutrient management.

Author Response

  1. Check words and grammar in the manuscript, there are some type errors.

Response : Corrected typo errors and grammar

  1. Oil palm is introduced not too sufficient. The nutrient limiting factors, suitable soil conditions, climatic conditions, and planting techniques of oil palm should introduced in the introduction part of the manuscript.

Response : Changes incorporated in introduction as suggested above

  1. DRIS indices calculation should describe more clarity in the 2.    Statistical analysis and estimation of DRIS indices. Such as, N/P, n/p. What does they mean?

Response : Provided the details and explained the calculation of DRIS indices

  1. It would be better that the results use chart to display. The soil fertility, leaf nutrient concentrations, and yield of oil palm of oil palm plantations were relatively simple. How about the relationship among them?

Response : This type of data did not match to display in charts as there is wide variability of data  in different parameters. The critical nutrient concentrations are used as standards to decide the status of nutrient concentration in the leaf. While generating nutrient advisories which is explained in results as well as discussion sections. A reference also has been provided on validation of DRIS derived optimal ranges in nutrient management of oil palm in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh through on-farm evaluation.

  1. in the discussion, the evaluation and application of DRIS indices were important. The authors should supplement the relevant content of the DRIS indices estimation and how to use for efficient nutrient management.

Response : Provided the details as suggested. Evaluation of DRIS derived optimal ranges in nutrient management of oil palm in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh through on-farm evaluation has been referred under discussion.

Reviewer 2 Report

The Manuscript entitled" Establishing Critical Leaf Nutrient Concentrations and Identification of Yield Limiting Nutrients for Precise Nutrient Prescriptions in Oil Palm(Elaeis guineensis Jacq) Plantations" is an interesting investigation. But the overall the write and data representation is very poor. The manuscript can be accepted after addressing following major comments.

Abstract: needs conclusive quantitative statement of the findings of this study instead giving general statements

Introduction: specify paragraphs for every relevant issue of the investigation this seems a lng single paragraph with no connection.

Material and Methods; Which type of survey was conducted in this study. You are using heading soil sampling and analysis but this section give more detail about the climatic conditions of the area but no analysis methods. I suggest to specify different section. Also give make and model of each instrument used for analysis.

Results: This section is very confusing and seems a thesis sections please write the results according to publication style explain every parameter and refer to relevant table or graph.

Discussion again seems to be result section but not justified with relevant literature. Add more citation in discussion.

Abstract: needs conclusive quantitative statement of the findings of this study instead giving general statements.

Response: Conclusive quantitative statement is included.

Introduction: specify paragraphs for every relevant issue of the investigation this seems a long single paragraph with no connection.

Response : Separate paragraphs formed for relevant issues.

Material and Methods; Which type of survey was conducted in this study. You are using heading soil sampling and analysis but this section give more detail about the climatic conditions of the area but no analysis methods. I suggest to specify different section. Also give make and model of each instrument used for analysis.

Response : Provided the details of survey. Separate section is given for study area and soil sampling & analysis. Provided the make and model of instruments used for analysis.

Results: This section is very confusing and seems a thesis sections please write the results according to publication style explain every parameter and refer to relevant table or graph.

Response: Modified as suggested.

Discussion again seems to be result section but not justified with relevant literature. Add more citation in discussion.

Reviewer 3 Report

This manuscript is interesting that summerize "Establishing Critical Leaf Nutrient Concentrations and Identification of Yield Limiting Nutrients for Precise Nutrient Prescriptions in Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) Plantations".

However, there are a number of issues in current form which requires substantial revision. Concept of the manuscript is up to the mark but the development is poor according to me.

The discussion and conclusion sections especially needs to be reviewed and edited.

My detailed comments are in attached zip file.
