Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is one of the strongest drafts that I have read in quite some time. The thesis is clear, and the organization develops the argument with a strong mix of primary and secondary sources. I learned a great deal about the relationship between missionary theory and the development of apartheid. Thank you for writing such an important piece of scholarship.

Reviewer 3 Report

This historical survey of the birthing of Apartheid, and especially of the role of Gerdener, is of interest to the study of mission not only in southern Africa, but the study of the worldwide missionary movement.

Author should reread carefully the text and make minor edits. E.g. line 430: "installed" rather than "instilled"
